Hello,

Starting to get seriously p*****d off with my SPV over the whole Bluetooth issue.

I have spent the past two days faffing about following Godknows how many sets of instructions here trying to get my laptop and the phone talking.

I have now decided that it will probably NEVER Async over BT - a pain, but not the end of the world for me.

However what is a KILLER problem - and may just see me returning the phone - is that I need to be able to use the phone as a modem when out on the road. At the moment if I try to dial out my BT icon goes green, and the icon at the top right of the phone shows the attempting to connect arrows.... then it fails.

I can see this whole BT stuff is VERY hit and miss. So, to be honest I am looking for solutions to get the phone working as a modem using the USB link cable, is that possible??

A great phone - but this BT stuff is SH*T

Have you confirmed that activesync on the Laptop/Desktop is using the bluetooth serial port?

Grab me on MSN if you want to talk this through.

Hi,

I am pretty sure it is all as it should be. I have the feeling that it is VERY close to working (so close, its making my teeth itch!)

To be honest I am not all the concerned about getting Async working over BT (as much as I HATE things which dont do what they are meant to).

However, I must the SPV working as a modem... and I think that is even closer to working!

If I go to `my bluetooth places` on the laptop and double click the `dial up networking` icon I get a popup box telling me that a connection is being made to the SPV. I then get my normal dialup box.

If I leave the 0800 xyz number in, I get Error 678. The remote computer did not respond.

If I change the number to *99# (not sure why, but this seems to be suggested in other threads) then after a longer wait - and the two arrows symbol comes up in the top right hand corner of the SPV - I then get either Error 692 (there was an error in the modem) or something to do with a PPP error???

Its driving me NUTZ

ActiveSynch - check that BT is turned OFF on the phone. Reboot PC then turn BT ON on the phone, go into Activesync on phone and select Connect via BT. If that does not work, delete the partnership and select "setup BT Activesync..." on the phone

As for using your phone as a modem, a couple of thoughts:

It is possible that Orange have disabled data calls to 0800 numbers (BTW - how much are 0800 numbers charged at on Orange and do they come out of inclusive minutes?) - Does anyone know if this is the case? Has anyone else succedded in data calls to 0800 numbers? If possible, try to connect to a "normal" number just to make sure your settings are correct first. Any calls to a phone number willl be hoing via GSM at, I believe (I'm sure someone will correct me if I'm wrong) 9600 Baud (ie very slow)

*99# was orriginaly set up as a test number for Vodafone's GPRS system when it was first being tested. It seems to have been globally accepted as a GPRS call initiation signal and your phone will attempt to connect via GPRS (check your phones GPRS settings to see where it connects to).

*99# is the number that Orange use for the modem over GPRS. You must use this number. You also then need to edit the properties of the bluetooth modem to include an extra initialisation string to allow you to access the GPRS network - otherwise you get the PPP error you mention. Can't remember the string off-hand but it is included in several posts detailing setting up modems (try the help and advice forum or FAQ or articles, can't remember which) or phone Orange!
