Hi folks,

When I got my C500 I set up email using the settings I have in outlook for my isp freeuk. Incoming server is pop.freeuk.net and the outgoing smtp server is relay.freeuk.net (which is the correct outgoing smtp server for freeuk).

Now, it was sending and receiving emails fine until the other day. Now, when I try to send an email I get a message from 'System administrator' saying that I have invalid recipients which is not the case. I can receive email ok but just not send.

The only thing that has happened recently is that I got a call from Orange and they offered a month's trial of using the internet and I'm wondering if they've mucked something up. I used the search facility on the forums and got a little confused as to whether I should be using freeuk's smtp server or Orange's but as it was working I don't understand why.

Does anyone have any ideas I could try out ?

I don't know about freeuk but lots of ISPs block emails that do not orriginate from within their system. So if you are connecting through Orange they do not allow you to youse their servers for sending email (it helps prevent SPAM). The simple way round this is to set the outfoing server to orange's (ie smtp.orange.net). I use this as my outgoing server for all my accounts on my phone, just habit I suppose.

You are a star.

I changed my outgoing server to smtp.orange.net and it worked fine.

I'm not sure why relay.freeuk.com had originally worked but there you go.

Thanks for the help!

Glad it worked :)

Some ISP's seem to take a while to realise thet people are posting from other ISPs others block all "external" posting.
