Guest zzzz Posted October 4, 2004 Report Posted October 4, 2004 Hi. A friend of mine was showing me a movie on his E100 phone using windows media player. Then I showed him a movie I had on my phone (an mpx) using betaplayer. He has asked me if I could put the betaplayer on his phone. I tried putting it onto his sd card and thought he would be able to download it of there but it wouldnt even access it. My question is how do I get it on his phone for him? Will he need a data cable and will he need to get his phone unlocked its locked to Orange at the moment. Thanks.
Guest awarner [MVP] Posted October 4, 2004 Report Posted October 4, 2004 The phone needs to be application unlocked and then it's best to install Beta Player properly.
Guest zzzz Posted October 4, 2004 Report Posted October 4, 2004 Thanks for the reply. Not sure what application unlocked is. I thought a phone was either locked or unlocked? Do I have to take it to a shop or can it be done over the net? Cheers.

This has been subject of much debate for a long time, but the short of it is, that the phone can be 'application UNlocked' over the air from the orange website, if its an Orange phone. Search this site for Application Unlock etc...
Guest awarner [MVP] Posted October 4, 2004 Report Posted October 4, 2004 If the phone is an Orange one it will be application locked by default. This means that only signed software can run on it. Application unlocking removes this security method. Click on OTA for more information and a link to the Orange developers site where you can get the phone unlocked.
Guest zzzz Posted October 4, 2004 Report Posted October 4, 2004 Thanks guys. Appreciate that :) CHEERS!
Guest zzzz Posted October 4, 2004 Report Posted October 4, 2004 Bugger. Sorry to be a pain guys but on the orange site it says make sure your spv is rom revision 1.3.5 or higher. The instilation cd I have with the e100 is version 1.0. Does this mean it wont work or will I have to get an updated installation cd. I havnt tried to download anything yet as its a friends phone and I dont wont to bugger it up for him. Thanks again.

I don't see an installation CD version number having even the remotest thing to do with the ROM version of the Smartphone software on your phone... I don't see the relationship mate...? Your ROM version number can be found by going into the Settings Menu on your phone, then the ABOUT option I suspect... And if this is higher than what is required, you will be fine...
Guest ferret Posted October 4, 2004 Report Posted October 4, 2004 shadamehr is correct. Go to settings > about and scroll down until you see Operator. Ignore the numbers in this pic as it's from my e200.
Guest zzzz Posted October 4, 2004 Report Posted October 4, 2004 Cheers guys. I dindnt have a clue what the rom revision was if I was truthful. I just saw version 1.0 on the cd when I opened the box and thought that was probably it  Just checke it out and its version 1.3.5.6 so it should be fine. Thanks everyone.
Guest awarner [MVP] Posted October 4, 2004 Report Posted October 4, 2004 That's an old update version now :) Ther have been two others since that one was released in about April last year. This was replaced by 1.5 and then the 1.6 update.
Guest zzzz Posted October 6, 2004 Report Posted October 6, 2004 Hmm. . Now im having trouble unlocking the phone  Ive followed all the instructions im sure everything is correct. I get to the page Your spv will be unlocked shortly and a message will appear on your screen to confirm this, but thats it. No message is recieved or anything. Gprs is active and ive got a strong signal. Ive tried it about 10 times changing the number from +44 to 07 and still no joy. Has anyone any ideas?
Guest squall Posted October 6, 2004 Report Posted October 6, 2004 you could email the support team. they can write you a custom app that will do the job for you
Guest zzzz Posted October 6, 2004 Report Posted October 6, 2004 Cheers Ian Think im going to have to contact Orange support. I have downloaded the action register thinking that once I had registered it may work, but when I select it from my programms menu on the phone the page only comes on for a second or two then reverts back to the previous page. Cheers. Brian
Guest shadamehr Posted October 6, 2004 Report Posted October 6, 2004 zzzz - if you email me i MAY have an app that will unlock the security on your phone. It worked for my c500 when nothing else would...
Guest awarner [MVP] Posted October 6, 2004 Report Posted October 6, 2004 zzzz - if you email me i MAY have an app that will unlock the security on your phone. It worked for my c500 when nothing else would... If that is the decert app the Orange developers site sent you direct it will not work as it is written based on your phones IMEI. If not a bit more info would be good :)
Guest shadamehr Posted October 6, 2004 Report Posted October 6, 2004 No mate - its the generic fix developed for the old motorola handsets, that I found worked a treat on my C500, when NOTHING else would... Is it safe to post it here - as I think its third party, so should be ok... Don't tell me I've stumbled onto something major?
Guest awarner [MVP] Posted October 6, 2004 Report Posted October 6, 2004 Post removed The app in question was not developed for the motorola but was leaked from Orange and is therefore ilegal and not to be posted here. Sorry

Sorry Does that mean my card's marked as a ruffian, a rascal, and a trouble maker...? Wahay! ;-)
Guest zzzz Posted October 8, 2004 Report Posted October 8, 2004 Thanks for the offer Shadmehr. I dont know whether orange got my e mail request and sent out a message to unlock my phone or the unlock process on the orange site eventualy came through, but about four hours after I stopped trying I noticed a message on my phone saying "your phone has been successfuly unblocked"! I was doing this for a friend by the way it wasnt for myself. Anyway when I prceeded to put the betaplayer on his phone there wasnt enough room on the phone  so I thought bugger it I will do a hard reset and then put it on. I gave him his phone yesterday and he was well pleased with his betaplayer. Im just dreading seeing him tonight. He's bound to have tried to make a phone call, so he will have realised that all his contacts have been errased ^_^ Cheers Guys.
