Slight OT: O2 PAYG System, National Crash - upto 1wk delays.

If you believe the Customer Service staff at O2 PAYG (and for once, I DO, given that I had a suspicion myself), there has been a major system crash of the O2 PAYG Crediting System on Saturday.

My background to this is that I had my irate Mum on the phone to me, telling me her credit bought Saturday had not gone on.

She had luckily kept her receipt.

When it still had not gone on by Sunday afternoon, I rang the Top Up Line for her - only to get a recorded announcement saying that there were major difficulties, and to try again later.

So she rang them up proper today, and was told amongst other things:

1. This is a mojor national system crash

2. Hundreds of thousands of customers will be affected (?)

3. O2 expect to lose thousands of pounds over this

4. There is nothing that can be done in the intrim to allow customers to add credit

5. And that it might last a whole week...

6. Finally, they expect to lose thoudands of customers through this (I'm too bloody sure if it were me, then I'd be going elsewhere with a new PAYG handset)

If any of this is true, it has MAJOR implications for O2, and major implications for any of you that are O2 Online PAYG Customers, or even O2 normal PAYG if they are affected to, as they claim...

Just thought I should mention this - anyone else experiencing this too - please add comments below...

Both were affected. The other half is on O2, bought on swipy and didn't work so bought a scratchcard and didn't work. Still not had the credit.

My Mother, my Au Pair, and Mother in law got their credit to finally come through last night.

Today they all got a £2.50 credit from O2 for the hassle.

Frightening to think they can have a problem this big happen - what about all those people who having a phone is an essential lifeline...?

And at £2.50 a time, whilst it's nothing to shout about for those affected, it must have cost O2 hundreds of thousands...?

I work in a mobile store, it affected their ENTIRE pay and go top up system. Everything working okay now though, and have to give them top marks for crediting everyone with some free credit for the trouble, vodafone wouldnt have bothered to.
