Guest atonks Posted October 4, 2004 Report Posted October 4, 2004 I've been invited to join another Trial. Anyone else seen this yet? (I don't think I'm giving any secrets away here as I can ask an unlimited amount of people to join the service) I think this could be really useful at work, and possibly amongst friends too. You can text or call loads of people simultaneously for the price of one message or call. Cool 8) (If it works)
Guest pisquee Posted October 4, 2004 Report Posted October 4, 2004 I can't see that I would find this service (or trial) useful. I enjoyed the 3G data trial, and found it useful. Especially getting a free data card and everything.
Guest Brody Posted October 4, 2004 Report Posted October 4, 2004 I've been on this trial for a while now, its well worth a look...
Guest atonks Posted October 4, 2004 Report Posted October 4, 2004 I've had a go with it now, and it does seem to work very well. You can set up more than one group, so I can see the advantages for business straight off. It's possible to send one voice or text message to as many people as you want, for free if you use the web site. Posted from my SmartPhone!
Guest ClintEastman Posted October 5, 2004 Report Posted October 5, 2004 not in my trials site!!!! (just like they never activated my 3G access (even though im on the trial!!!!!) Have been put forward for a secret trial though (well hush hush at the moment!!!) But not through the trial site!!
Guest dahquim Posted October 5, 2004 Report Posted October 5, 2004 how do you register for trials?? Thanks Dahquim
Guest squall Posted October 5, 2004 Report Posted October 5, 2004 visit www.trials.orange.co.uk and register. you should find the gathering trail adds itself after you register
Guest SmugX Posted October 6, 2004 Report Posted October 6, 2004 Sounds kindof interesting. So, does the call part of this work like a big conference call? Can everyone take part - or can only the organiser talk? Secondly, do all participants have to be Orange customers, or is it cross-network? Cheers, Neil.
Guest squall Posted October 6, 2004 Report Posted October 6, 2004 you can leave voice mails. you cant call everyone and have a conversation and at the moment limited to orange. not sure about if it will be open to all networks on launch. Phones also must be registered with the orange trials team to use the service at the minute
Guest atonks Posted October 6, 2004 Report Posted October 6, 2004 you can leave voice mails. you cant call everyone and have a conversationYou can "... speak to everyone in the Gathering at once by sending a text message to everyone to invite them to dial into your Gathering unique phone number " and at the moment limited to orange. not sure about if it will be open to all networks on launch. Orange say "Everyone can join in, it doesn't matter if they're Orange customers or not." Phones also must be registered with the orange trials team to use the service at the minute I've added members of my family, and their phones are not registered with the Orange Trials team.
Guest atonks Posted October 6, 2004 Report Posted October 6, 2004 Sounds kindof interesting. So, Â does the call part of this work like a big conference call? Can everyone take part - or can only the organiser talk? "Members of the group can join in real-time chat via the always-on conference call set up exclusively for your Gathering. Call in when you like, leave when you like." ------------------------------------------------- "the really clever bit - mixing your media All messages are stored and accessible in different formats so it doesn't matter if you don't have access to one media, you'll never miss a message. For example, if you send a text message to your Gathering, other people will receive the text on their handset. In addition, Gathering members will be able to listen to the text by dialling into the Gathering number (useful if you're using a landline and don't have access to a mobile handset that can receive texts), or by logging onto the website. Equally, if you leave a voice message for your Gathering, people can dial in to your unique Gathering number or log onto the website and listen to the message. All the voice mails and chat sessions are recorded, so you can hear them on your phone or the website. Or, if you leave a message for the Gathering on the website, people can listen to the message by dialling their Gathering number thanks to Orange's Text-to-Speech facility. If you only have a mobile and no web access, you won't miss what's going on in the Gathering. Even if you don't have a mobile, you can dial into the Gathering from a landline or access the service on the web so you'll never miss what's happening. " ------------------------------------------ "once you're a member, you can: Send and receive text messages to / from the group. Record and listen to group voice messages. Join a voice chat session. Read and post messages on the Gatherings website, and access a full history of all messages. Block any member whose messages you don't want to see. Choose whether to receive text messages on your phone, or just see them all on the website and have them read out on the phone instead. "
Guest furby Posted October 6, 2004 Report Posted October 6, 2004 Still haven't got any trials despite signing up months ago booo! will see what happens if I try to sign up anyway :) edit/ It let me sign up ,just been registered with the trials site must be enough

I have not been successful in registering non orange phones for the trail. didnt know that about the calls. thats cool
Guest Confucious Posted October 6, 2004 Report Posted October 6, 2004 "]This service ROCKS! P But you support Asenal so can we really trust your oppinion? :)
Guest Paul [MVP] Posted October 6, 2004 Report Posted October 6, 2004 Don't make me ban your ass ;-) P
Guest Brody Posted October 7, 2004 Report Posted October 7, 2004 LOL! You're best of saying that in the Smartphone chat room, then he just kicks you! Brody grumbles something about having been there and done that! :)
Guest atonks Posted October 7, 2004 Report Posted October 7, 2004 "]This service ROCKS! :) P Yeah, Just imagine how useful it could be if, for example, you ran a forum about something and wanted to get a message to all the members. Or you were having a "Winter Event".... (I bet it'd melt if you had all 59,415 MoDaCo members in your gathering  )
Guest squall Posted October 7, 2004 Report Posted October 7, 2004 well they did ask us for our numbers when signing up to the meet so orange could text us on the day :/
Guest SmugX Posted October 7, 2004 Report Posted October 7, 2004 Thanks for the replies guys. I'm interested in this, but the trials site seems screwy at the moment. When I log in with my old details, it takes me to the home page, but saying "You are not logged in - click here to login." (This isn't the 'oops - try again' message when I get my login details wrong.) When I try to register again, I get to the end, and it says I forgot to fill in some details - which I don't think I did - and makes me start the whole form again! [EDIT!] Take it back, it works in IE, but does the above in FireFox! Still, I stand by my
Guest SmugX Posted October 7, 2004 Report Posted October 7, 2004 And after finally logging in, this trial doesn't show up in either my current or future trials! I've got most boxes ticked that I'd expect me to get this trial (all true!), e.g. C500, Orange Customer, Pay Monthly, Have Actual Interests, Am Using Windows, etc. Anyone with any bright ideas on why I can't see it?

Ye I haven't ever got any trials, but in this case I don't think it matters. I was still able to sign up, just follow instructions on the gatherigs site
Guest Paul [MVP] Posted October 7, 2004 Report Posted October 7, 2004 Yeah, same here... shame I can't offer feedback tho as I can't get to the trial area for Gatherings. As there a finite trial duration? P
Guest SmugX Posted October 7, 2004 Report Posted October 7, 2004 Ah! Excellent. Well spotted. It's working for me now. Thanks!
