Guest Mike Wagstaff Posted October 5, 2004 Report Posted October 5, 2004 Just for a laugh (and because I'm new to Visual Studio and Smartphone programming), I thought I'd cook up a free torch application. TorchLite offers the following amazing, never-been-seen-before features: * Stays bright (i.e. the screen doesn't dim or turn itself off) * Choice of colours * Disco mode * Free * Open source Don't have too much fun... and please let me know what you think! Words of encouragement may result in further software... Please note that I only have a C500, so this has only been tested on that device. TorchLite uses the .NET CF, so won't be compatible on 2002 phones - sorry.TorchLite - Source.zipTorchLite.zip
Guest Disco Stu Posted October 5, 2004 Report Posted October 5, 2004 Absolutely fantastic, Mike 8) Does exactly what is says on the tin. How about getting to change in time with MP3s playing in Media Player ? Then how about tackling the "Visualisation" in the PC version ? :)/
Guest chucky.egg Posted October 5, 2004 Report Posted October 5, 2004 Hey, yeah, what about visualisations so when you've got the phone playing MP3s while you're driving at night you get freaky, distracting light effects?
Guest ferret Posted October 5, 2004 Report Posted October 5, 2004 I've just found some dead pixels :) Cool app though.
Guest pisquee Posted October 5, 2004 Report Posted October 5, 2004 Paul, I am sure this infringes on your copyright over the original "Torch"
Guest Mike Wagstaff Posted October 5, 2004 Report Posted October 5, 2004 Glad people like it! :) The visualisations idea is a cool one, but I'm afraid that it's one I'll probably leave to other, more competent (and musically-minded) programmers. As for breaking any copyrights, I'm fairly certain that it doesn't. I did see Paul's original Torch program, but I don't recall seeing a version that kept the backlight on to avoid having to press a key every once in a while. However, some of the code I've used is freely available code that Paul has apparently tested, so I've mentioned him in the credits.
Guest pisquee Posted October 5, 2004 Report Posted October 5, 2004 yeah, i was only kidding about the copyright thing.
Guest Mike Wagstaff Posted October 5, 2004 Report Posted October 5, 2004 yeah, i was only kidding about the copyright thing. I thought you might be, but you can never be sure. There are plenty of crazy people out there...! :)
Guest peekie Posted October 5, 2004 Report Posted October 5, 2004 there is one company selling a rip of pauls torch for 5 dollars does the same
Guest phAn Posted October 5, 2004 Report Posted October 5, 2004 Oeh cool! Thanks for the flashlight! This will definately come in handy once *remembers a long, dark, rainy night somewhere between Venice (Italy) and Rotterdam (the Netherlands) on a secondary road.. with two friends... in an antique car... with a very unhandy indoorlight.... and a big, dark roadmap...* Oh if I only would have had this phone back then..... ....damn that night would have been boring :)
Guest Taoski Posted October 11, 2004 Report Posted October 11, 2004 Does it fade in and out of the colours like my Mathmos Blimp does? If so, i could have saved myself £30! Apart from the £200 i would have to spend on a C500! :lol
Guest Disco Stu Posted October 11, 2004 Report Posted October 11, 2004 Following a cue from another poster, could this be linked to incoming calls ? The phone rings, you get a light show ?
Guest Skunkchild Posted October 11, 2004 Report Posted October 11, 2004 Any chance you could add the ability to overlay an image with transparency over the top of the flashing background ? As illustrated here ...acid.gif
Guest James Posted October 11, 2004 Report Posted October 11, 2004 nice little ap mate... like it ^_^
Guest SMYKUL Posted October 15, 2004 Report Posted October 15, 2004 ^_^ i love this app ! i have just recieved VS 2005 B1 and i thought id have a mess (never even tried programming SPVs before) so i hope you dont mind (@Mike) but i made a rebuild that changes the colours in sequence instead of randomly (i was getting pauses/glitches on my C500). If i get permission from Mike (you don't mind me calling you mike, do you ?) and if anyone wants it i'll post it up.
Guest Skunkchild Posted October 15, 2004 Report Posted October 15, 2004 I'd like a download if t's cool with Mike. Is it going to be possible to do an image overlay ?
Guest SMYKUL Posted October 15, 2004 Report Posted October 15, 2004 I Dunno about the overlay but ive started mapping the keys to different colour fadings(i.e. pressing 2 toggles fading blue light and dark) having trouble getting the red one to look right, im not used to the .net colours and the fades are far from smooth. They look good shining on something though. As for the ver with the fix, we will have to wait and see what Mike thinks, he might want the source code to check it over or something, just depends how he operates.
Guest Mike Wagstaff Posted October 16, 2004 Report Posted October 16, 2004 Wow, I never thought that there would be this much interest! ^_^ I don't have much time to work on updated versions myself, but I'm more than happy for people to take the source code and adapt it for new versions. It's completely open-source, so I don't mind at all with whatever anybody wants to do with the code (as long as you don't start selling it :D).
Guest gujufromuk Posted October 16, 2004 Report Posted October 16, 2004 Hi Shame will it work on SPV m1000 Guju
Guest Mike Wagstaff Posted October 16, 2004 Report Posted October 16, 2004 If it has the .NET framework, it should work. Give it a go - the worst that can happen is that it'll refuse to run! ^_^ Posted from my SmartPhone!
Guest SMYKUL Posted October 16, 2004 Report Posted October 16, 2004 Great Stuff !!! Thanks Mike  . #Runs to VS to work on new build#. ^_^
Guest SMYKUL Posted October 19, 2004 Report Posted October 19, 2004 forgot to do this yesterday, new build upcoming ! All finished apart from the info screen. i have rewritten it to handle r g b values as well so it is much faster and the fades to and from different colours are now COMPLETELY smooth (3 new modes) ! will post up when finished. Guest caseyd Posted March 6, 2005 Report Posted March 6, 2005 anyone thought of adding the ability to turn on your phones LED light that they use as a camera flash?
Guest awarner [MVP] Posted March 6, 2005 Report Posted March 6, 2005 The phone's LED is not bright enough and is also the wrong colour.
