Synching Feeling - Synch Contacts without active synch?

Hi all,

I am running on a restricted network at work and as such can't have ActiveSynch installed.

I've created my contacts and exported them as an excel file so that I can import them at home using ActiveSynch no problem.

But, I started to think - is it possible to simply email myself the file created on my work machine (either the Outlook contacts file, or the exported XLS) and just copy it over the contacts file in the phone?

I have found a file called contacts.def in storagewindows. Is this what I need to overwrite?

Has anyone else ever done this, and what's the best method, and which file types to use.

Weird I know, but I like to play around.

Thanks,

Pete

This is what I would do:

at work export your Contacts as a .pst file (personal folder file) and email it to your home PC. Take care to export only your Contacts and not your emails otherwise you will have a massive file.

at home import the .pst file into Outlook and then use Active Sync as normal to update your C500.

Thanks Steve,

I tried that, but I get an error message saying that the imported file is not a PST, yet both Outlooks are 2002 and I've followed the import / export wizards exactly, and I've only exported my contacts.

Did you ever get any error messages like this?

what is the name of the expeorted file including the file extension?

seems strange that you're exporting to a pst file and yet the outcome is an excel spreadsheet. try the same process but using a comma seperated value (.csv) file instead

The CSV route isn't correct.

When I get home tonight I will do you a step by step routine for you to try.

I will do it on a Modaco private message to save clogging up the forum

Did you get my private message? Did you try the suggestion?

I would be interested to hear if it worked.
