How to get 900 band for AT&T MPX 200 - my case in China

My MPX200: AT&T, WM 2003 German version w Multi lang package, no update of GPRS fix, normally used in Virginia, US, just had a trip to Beijing China today. !!! The labeling under battery pack is 1800/1900!!!

How:

1. Change regional setting, Language to 'chinese', keep local as 'English' is ok. How to have 'Chinese' under Language, you need to add one register key 0404 (chinese). You should have one key 0409 (english) on the phone already. I can't remenber the register key name on top of my head. I am sure someone here can figure it out, otherwise I will provide details once I am back to States.

2. Reboot

Before step 1, when I turn on my phone in Beijing, It's no service. After above steps, my phone found CMCC (Chinese Mobile?). I did make a call to my mom's land phone in Beijing.

Thoughts:

You need to turn on your regional setting. Some posting on MPX200.ORC mentioned that AT&T MPX 200 has the same hardware but limited software (or inactive software). I kind agree this theory. My case I have to turn on my Chinese regional setting. If you are in other country, please try to add other regional setting and reply here.

Why I say I got 900 band

1. China only has 900 band

2. After unlock my phone with UK site, I was able to use SIM card from my sister's phone in Beijing. My sister's phone is very old and I am pretty sure it's not on some new 1800/1900 band (if there is some)

Overall, 900 band is ready in AT&T phone. You just need to set it right.

BTW, my first post, flame me at your will. Feel free to copy/paste to any other website.

Thank a@ 's WM 2003 firmware, which makes my mpx200 really good toy.

Welcome to the site :)

Unfortunately you are not correct.

AT&T phones are only dual-band and not tri-band.

There were a small number of phones released by mistake on AT&T initially but the problem is hardware and no ammount of reg hacking or ROM flashing will change this.

You may be one of the lucky ones.

I heard that some early version of AT&T phone has tri-band. But someone did insist that if labeling under battery pack of 1800/1900, it is a dual band phone. I mentioned in my post my phone has this labeling but I do get tri-band.

I also have to emphasize that before I switch regional setting, my phone did not get service.

Anyway, it's worth a try.

I am now in Beijing with at&t mpx200 dual band, it works well because in Beijing and Shanghai etc cmcc with

1800m/900m. you could make call in Beijing meaned your phone just worked with 1800m but not your mpx with

tri-band.

2003 will not give you the 900Mhz band as it is a hardware configuration and no ammount of flashing will change this.

If you have an AT&T phone there is only a slim chance it was one of the earlier models that were triband.
