Can constant charging, and by constant I mean being linked into activesync all day by USB, damage the battery?

That is a good point.

I think it stops charging when the battery is full and might indicate why standard USB car chargers don't work. If communication occurs between the charger and the phone to indicate whether power should be supplied or not.

thoughts?

I use two types of car USB chargers without a problem :?

One was a moto charger and the other was a cheap one off ebay.

I also use a sync and charge cable that I used with my mpx200.

Liithium Ion batteries have circuitry built in to them to prevent overcharging as the cells would literally explode. I have seen the circuitry disabled and then overcharged in test conditions - not pretty sight.

Technically, your battery is being monitored for drops in charge so it can recharge but I couldn't say if this actually damages it.

I used to keep my laptop on constant charge and that lasted over 3 years (the laptop died - not battery - which kept pretty much full charge this time). This was also Li-Ion battery (like most laptops today). It is suggested you regularly let the battery die completely and on the subsequent charge, let it charge absolutely fully in order to recondition the battery's 'memory' of charge.

Its good practice.

On your c500? That's very interesting then, re http://www.modaco.com/viewtopic.php?t=1150...er=asc&start=21 there must already be 'standard' car chargers out there with the correct 'pin 4 to ground' spec.

Any more info on these chargers? You say one was a "moto" charger. What's that?
