Guest FloatingFatMan Posted October 7, 2004 Report Posted October 7, 2004 Hey All, I've just rebuilt my PC with a new mobo & processor & reinstalled XP, but now my MPX200 won't connect!! I've installed the latest version of ActiveSync, but it will only connect the FIRST time I plug the dock into a USB port. If I then undock the phone & redock it, AS just sits there saying Connecting and never does. The PC does know I plugged something into the port as I get the USB connect & disconnect sounds. If I switch it to another USB port, it will work again, once, but again if I undock & redock, no more connection... Here's the spec: Asus P4C800-E Deluxe P4 3Ghz Northwood 512mb DDR400 Nothing overly special really and no overlocking. so I can't see what would be the cause. MS's knowledgebase was about as much use as a fart in a hurricane... Has anyone seen a similar problem? FFM
Guest awarner [MVP] Posted October 7, 2004 Report Posted October 7, 2004 It's a known problem and I get it all the time. :) Best thing is not to unplug the phone unless you really need to. It's one reason I use a sync and charge cable rather than the cradle.
Guest FloatingFatMan Posted October 7, 2004 Report Posted October 7, 2004 Hmm... strange that it's never bothered me before... The only thing different is that I've rebuilt the PC. I only undock it when I go to work/bed and I dock it when I get back home... Those are pretty much the only times I undock/dock and I do need to take the phone with me when I go out!!! So, is there anything I can do about it?
Guest Coolbox Posted October 7, 2004 Report Posted October 7, 2004 I sync with 2 computers a desktop at home and a laptop at the university. Only at home it makes the same problem as you mention but at the university it hasn't happen once. I thought it was because I used the original cable at the university but another at home.
Guest ronny Posted October 16, 2004 Report Posted October 16, 2004 you could try to re-install active sync.
Guest gpcarreon (MVP) Posted October 17, 2004 Report Posted October 17, 2004 OT Hi ronny. Its so nice to see a fellow Pinoy actively participating and helping out other members here at the MPx200 section. Keep up the good work pare! ^_^

Guest FloatingFatMan Posted October 19, 2004 Report Posted October 19, 2004 Well... I've found the cause of the problem, at least for my case anyway. Believe it or not, it was Norton Internet Security 2004. For some reason it decided to block the ActiveSync app, even though it was only connecting via USB. Tell me, just WHY would a bloody firewall interfere with USB connections? Bah!! Anyway... I changed the permissions for ActiveSync to Allow All and it immediately connected and everything is fine again... Needless to say, I've fired off an eMail to Symantec telling them they're a bunch of bozo's! ^_^ FFM [EDIT] Even if you're not using NIS, If you're having the same problem, might be worth checking your firewall settings to see if it's decided to do the same as NIS did...
Guest dazh71 Posted October 23, 2004 Report Posted October 23, 2004 I use McAfee personal firewall, that to was blocking because its says its connecting to the internet, probably cos it see's the mpx200 as another computer. I allowed activesync full permisions and now it works fine!!!!!!!!!!!1
