Guest zim_zimmer Posted October 7, 2004 Report Posted October 7, 2004 Hi, I'm after a smartphone but there are loads out there and I really would love some people's opinion on some of them. I have a basic criteria in what I would like in a phone but not really which one to get. I had a shortlist of SONY ERICSSON P900 / P910 NOKIA 9500 XDA I/II MOTOROLA C500 MOTOROLA MPX200 The 'not so' smartphones but still interested in them SONY ERICSSON S700 SONY ERICSSON K700 NOKIA 7610 ... The basic criteria that must be essential in the phone I want is : INTEGRATED CAMERA (at least 640 x 480) Ability to record VIDEO clips (preferably longer than 5 minutes?) BLUETOOTH MP3 PLAYER SCREEN RESOLUTION at least 65k A decent sreen size 2" (near or over) UPLOAD/DOWNLOAD to phone (via Data cable or USB or Bluetooth) Be able to upload common apps, games, ringtones, Mp3's etc... ... the not so improtant but would be nice things : MEGAPIXEL CAMERA or higher ability to load up a GPS navigation system onto the phone (or similar) Watch videos/movies Thats about it really... not much that I really want but I'm really not sure which would be best? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank You Paul
Guest Confucious Posted October 7, 2004 Report Posted October 7, 2004 The C500 is made by HTC (not Motorola) and is An Orange SPV - it is sold as various other names on other networks throughout the world. IMHO the C500 is the best phone available at the moment if you want a phone that does everything (including internet access) the only possible exception being the SE P910 which is a lot more expensive. If yopu want a phone that will do anything I'd narrow your choice to those two and then decide on size/network/price and anything else that is important to you. Personally, I love my C500 :)
Guest zim_zimmer Posted October 7, 2004 Report Posted October 7, 2004 Thanks dude... On eother thing that I forgot to mention was that I'm on T-Mobile. Obviously if I can get the phone unlocked then it wouldn't be a problem but I'm worried that the Motorola's (SPV-C500, MPX200, etc...) will only work on the Orange network?? Can someone confirm or disperse my suspicions? CONFUSCIOUS - What network is your C500 on and do you know if you can get it unlocked to work on T-Mobile? Thanks again
Guest Phil Lee Posted October 7, 2004 Report Posted October 7, 2004 Just a quick note to say that the SPV C500 is made by HTC, not Motorola as you have said on a couple of occasions.
Guest zim_zimmer Posted October 7, 2004 Report Posted October 7, 2004 Sorry... So will these HTC SPV's work on T-Mobile does anyone know?? Thanks
Guest Monolithix [MVP] Posted October 7, 2004 Report Posted October 7, 2004 If they're sim unlocked they'll work on any tri-band GSM Network :)
Guest zim_zimmer Posted October 7, 2004 Report Posted October 7, 2004 Thanks... Just a bit worried as they only seem to be on the Orange Network and I thought it may be like the 3G network where you can't use their phones on a normal GSM network??? Would you recommend this phone then?
Guest Monolithix [MVP] Posted October 7, 2004 Report Posted October 7, 2004 The C500? Definately! It really is an impressive piece of kit.
Guest olly_k Posted October 7, 2004 Report Posted October 7, 2004 Something to bear in mind - would you be able to de-cert the C500 if you used it on another network??? Maybe buy an Orange sim, de-cert then switch? How would this work?
Guest Monolithix [MVP] Posted October 7, 2004 Report Posted October 7, 2004 Yep - check out the news forum, there is an online service that will SIM unlock for 20 quid.
Guest squall Posted October 7, 2004 Report Posted October 7, 2004 Something to bear in mind - would you be able to de-cert the C500 if you used it on another network??? Maybe buy an Orange sim, de-cert then switch? How would this work? visit www.imei-check.co.uk to unlock your c500
Guest Confucious Posted October 7, 2004 Report Posted October 7, 2004 The C500 can be unlocked to work on any network and is a great phone . I should be availabl;e on this site PAYG on orange (just unlock it and then you can use it on any network) HTH
Guest webcash Posted November 3, 2004 Report Posted November 3, 2004 With all due respect to the people on here you might want to think about where exactly you are asking this question.^_^ If you were to go to esato you would get told the p910 was the best without doubt if you went to tek-guru then the xda2 would undoubtedly be the model of choice.Think what you really want for me personally the touch screens are much more handy unless i am out for the night and want a smaller phone in which case the c500 wins. You and only you can make the choice but any phone between the xda2 p910 or the c500 is a cracking phone.(I have had them all ) Peter
Guest Confucious Posted November 4, 2004 Report Posted November 4, 2004 I agree with what Peter said, they are all good phones (The Motorola A1000 might also be worth a look if not on 3). It depends what you want from your smartphone. The size and cost of the C500 were what swung it for me.
Guest TigerNet Posted November 4, 2004 Report Posted November 4, 2004 ...also, the C500 exists as the imate SP3 which is open to all networks. You can get it from www.expansys.co (no I don't work for them) or I have seen it on the Tottenham Court Road in London... Cheers Nick
