I currently have a Nokia 6600. I like the look of the C500, however I have not seen a great deal of difference in terms of software etc.

I have recently started using the Route66 navigation system with a bluetooth gps unit.... does the c500 have something similar?

Other than the onboard software, is there a vast array of other software available... int he same way there is a huge amount of Nokia 6600 software freely available.

Thanks for your help?

There are a number of software titles available for the C500. Take a look at monolithix's site for example: www.monolithix.org. (currently down for maintanance!!)

this is a small number of some of the free applications available.

with regards to the gps question, i believe that you will be able to use the same bluetooth gps unit with the c500, but may need to change the software to one compatible with windows mobile.

Also, the c500 is a much better looking handset than the 6600 and has lots more on board memory!

If you search these forums yopu will find the answers.

Copilot do GPS s/ware that works with the C500 and TomTomn are working on getting their mobile version working with the C500.

The C500 is a great phone but if you already have the 6600 why are you thinking of changing?

There is a LOT more 3rd party software availbale for Symbian Series 60 phones (like the 6600) than there is for the MS Smartphone platform, and added to that there are some applications for the MS Smartphone platform that don't run on the C500.

I'd start with a list of applications that you really MUST HAVE, and see if there are equivalents. Then comapre the list of "nice to have" apps and do the same there.

Silly question. The C500 is far much better by miles...

The C500 is so much faster, I used to have the 6600 and got my C500 a week ago. The video playback is so smooth and clear, mp3's are great especially with stereo headphones which the 6600 dont have.

don't tell me nokia are still supplying mono headphones with their phones? he he he. I remember when the first radio capable nokia came out (7160?) they had mono headphones instead of stereo. I was listening to mp3 in nice stereo on my SL45.

Thanks for the replys.

I'm not bothered about mp3 playback in stereo, as I have a good mp3 player for that.

I had imagined that as the platform is MS based there would be a lot of MS based software available, and increased functionality over the Symbian60 platform. However I noticed a thread on here which claims you are still waiting for a program to view/ work with Excel spreadsheets?

This seems odd for a MS based platform??

Also... what is the difference between the C500 and the imate range, in particular the i-mate sp3i model?

Thanks

I have just changed from nokia 6600 to c500. It is sooooo much better. It is fast - in comparison N6600 is stupidly slow. c500 is much more pocket friendly and less geeky looking 8) .

=D> Straight out of the box, connect it to your pc with the USB lead and it syncs contacts, tasks, calendar and email. With a small amount of know-how you can do the same over Bluetooth. With both connections you can easily use your computers internet connection to browse the web, check emails, use MSN Messenger (supplied) . . .

I had N6600 for 6 months in which I NEAVER got it to sync #-o ! On c500 it is seamless. This is a vital function of a smartphone and any company (Nokia) that don’t even give proper support for their buggy software are very irritating  (to say the least).

Finding software for the c500 isn’t as easy and usually costs. I have only been looking since I got mine on Friday, but compared to N6600 there isn’t much out there. There is a spreadsheet viewer, but as far as I know now editor. I agree this is very wired for a MS based devise. Surely it is possible?

As far as I understand, the i-mate sp3 and sp3i are the same basic hardware as the c500 but look slightly different (sp3 is silver not black and sp3i has different buttons and a joystick).

My advise: get a c500 ! ^_^

I'm going through a similar choice soon - 6600 or C500. The C500 games compatibility is very irritating; 6600 being able to play a lot of the N-Gage games is a major plus point.

Yup, the 6600 only has mono MP3 playback, C500 has stereo. Heck, the 7610 only has mono. Nokia are dragging their heels (6230 is nice though, but only S40).

I think the clincher for me will be availability of applications for the device, and ultimately price (they are currentlly pretty much the same price).
