Guest homer_j_s Posted October 12, 2004 Report Posted October 12, 2004 Has anyone else noticed that plugging the headphones in doesnt completely mute the little speaker on the side of the phone? It reduces by only 50% or so! If you turn the volume down so it cant be heard, the headphones go too low, this of coarse is no good if you are in a public place and want to listen privately. Does anyone know if this is a bug? Or will it be sorted by ROM updates?
Guest beersoft Posted October 12, 2004 Report Posted October 12, 2004 are the headphones plugged in all the way? if there not, the speaker isnt muted later Owen
Guest homer_j_s Posted October 12, 2004 Report Posted October 12, 2004 Yeah pushed in as far as they will go. It only reduces the volume by half!

Guest homer_j_s Posted October 13, 2004 Report Posted October 13, 2004 Yes it does in media player, I put an MP3 on and it was coming out the speaker!! Anyway, an update, I have found a simple way round it. Press the power key to bring quick list up, then put the phone on SILENT mode, now the MP3's blast thru the headphones with no innocent bystanders being offended. LOL
Guest midnight Posted October 13, 2004 Report Posted October 13, 2004 i'd actually suggest you hard reset, that isnt correct is the phone profile automatically going to 'headset' when you plug in the headphones? The phone should be muted completely when plugging in the headphones.... except... when the phone is ringing for an incoming call (which is nice if you have accidentally left the headphones plugged in while phone on your desk)
Guest olly_k Posted October 13, 2004 Report Posted October 13, 2004 Goto profiles and edit the headphone settings, you will find the system volume is probably set to 2 or 3. I changed it to off which sorted the problem out ^_^ I also changed the ring volume high so I could actually hear the phone ring when my phones are plugged in but not in my ear 8)
Guest midnight Posted October 13, 2004 Report Posted October 13, 2004 all that shouldnt matter, by default, music shouldnt play out of the speaker if headset plugged in
Guest olly_k Posted October 13, 2004 Report Posted October 13, 2004 all that shouldnt matter, by default, music shouldnt play out of the speaker if headset plugged in bear in mind , the headphone jack 'switch' does not break the circuit to the phone speaker this is done through soft/hardware (sorry if stating the obvious  ) and in my opinion the very fact that we have this choice (useless or otherwise) is surely a good thing, and is what these phones are all about??
Guest homer_j_s Posted October 15, 2004 Report Posted October 15, 2004 The final update on this issue. I BELEIVE IT IS A SOFTWARE BUG!!!! I have tried all the settings in the profile, and it mutes the speaker completely only when it feels like it, had the profile on NORMAL and plugged headphones in, on the today screen it changed to HEADSET, which in turn muted the phone speaker. BUT, the next time I did it, nothing, the phone speaker still played the music (the today screen displayed HEADSET still), the firmware is bombed out, I hope they release an update soon its annoying, even the "put in silent mode" idea I posted earlier doesnt work all the time, I thought it was sorted when I selected "AUTOMATIC" as the profile but again, its only when the phone feels like muting it will actually do it. I even thought u might need to plug in the headphones BEFORE loading media player but this makes no difference. As phones get more sophisticated the more likely they are to mess up, im always saying it "F***** Computers" now ive added "F***** Smartphones" to my regular curses, LOL. Anyway, appart from this annoying little bug, the C500 is still definately the best phone on the market!! ^_^
Guest midnight Posted October 15, 2004 Report Posted October 15, 2004 and why cant it be hardware? theres a small switch that tells the phone that the headset is plugged in, the os then sets the profile to headset and then mutes the speaker. If this little switch isnt working correctly then the os never gets told its in headset mode. If it is software you are the only one with the issue, and it should be resolved with a hard reset. But i really do think this is a hardware issue as something similar was present on the original C500 where the switch would get stuck in meaning the os always thought the headset was plugged in even when it wasnt.
