recording Movie on New SD Card problem

PLEASE HELP!!

i have bought a new 256mb SD card, i have copied a few bits and pieces on it and i know it has approx 190mb free, when i go to record a film using the onboard camera and saving to the Card it records 3or4 secs and then says out of memory!

It is definetly recording to the SD card there is loads of room, it comes up saying i can record for over an hour!

recording to my old small card was fine, and to the phones memory is still ok!

its just bugging me as i have all this space and no way of recording to it

Is there another camera program i can use instead of the standard one?
