I play MP3's through my car stereo using a Belkin FM transmitter, it's brilliant, much better performance than the IPOD with ITRIP which I also have and will now be selling. My C500 screen powers up at the beginning of every MP3 track which is incredibly frustrating when driving in the dark it is also very distracting which isn't very good. I also find the rediculous flashing LED distracting, the other thing with the LED is the habit people have developed of telling me I have a call.

Are these yet more bugs? does anybody know a way of stopping them ie no screen power up at MP3 track start and no flashing LED. Also is it possible to keep the buttons illuminated for longer in the dark, I find that sometimes I get enough time to think and before I can do anything the button illumination has switched off. I have tried to speed up my thought process and failed ^_^ therefore I could due with the light on for longer.

The backlight and new track is there by default so you can see which track is currently playing. The LED is also there to tell you your phone is on/got reception.

You're only solution would be to place your phone screen down or put it in the glove compartment.

Cheers for the reply, we know our phones have reception via the display icon don't we, therfore as there are 2 methods of indicating connection wouldn't you think 1 would be selectable namely the led. As for the backlight issue(for me it's an issue) if I want to see which track is playing because my hearing has suddenly failed I can activate the backlight myself :? I'm kinda frustrated that after 30+ years of traveling the world experiencing different state of the art technologies I come across a phone on which the functions are essentially controlled by what appears to be an incomplete operating system. I base this comment on the number of recorded bugs on this phone, I've certainly turned many people to Symbian phones after showing them the issues with the C500 and I'll continue doing this until we see some updates/patches sorting bug issues out. I just want to use a fully functional phone I'm not into developing patches etc to try and sort things out, I've done enough of this on PC's over the years.

Redimp - how much are you asking for the iTrip? Thanks

Thinking behind the flashing LED.

People want their phone battery to last as long as possible.

Becasue of this the screen and backlight turn off after a set amount of time, as the screen and light eat the battery.

So you don't have to keep turning on the screen and light to see what your phone is doing there is small blinking LED, that uses a minimal amount of power (i.e. if it wasn't flashing the battery difference would be so tiny it wouldn't matter)

This LED blinks green when are logged on to a phone network, it blinks blue when you have bluetooth enabled, and shows as solid red when you really need to charge your battery.

20GB, 3rd Gen, with extra's including ITRIP etc, mint condition due to lack of use. I'm sticking it on EBAY tonight starting at about £150.

ummm, it works very well as a phone - u want it 2 work as an mp3 player under unusual conditions (@ night in a car). i think u can forgive it 4 not being perfect 4 the job. i would also prefer the faster chip and bigger memory than any symbian phone i have seen. oh, and the better screen. u can change the button timeout in settings cant u?

Not so unusual, and why would you want the screen firing up every MP3 when it's in your pocket whilst in MP3 mode, if battery life is an issue why not include a function allowing screen mode selectivity ie only turn screen on when # button pressed or something like that. Whilst I agree it's a phone and does the job why sell it with bells and whistles that in my opinion could do with improvement.

I had a Nokia 7610 which took cheaper mini MMC memory cards never once locked up on me and booted up a lot faster than the C500, the only reason I got rid was because I found out for some reason the headphone output was only mono which is no good for MP3 mode. The Symbian operating system worked fine, never realised when I bought a mobile windows phone it would suffer early window type bugs.

Not sure about the shite I had a Nokia 7610 which took the cheaper mini MMC memory cards, never locked on me once unlike my C500 and had a reasonable 1MPix camera and it booted up much faster. I only got rid because for some reason the 7610 audio out is mono which is no good for MP3 playback. I bought the C500 because it offered windows flexibility but I didn't realise I would encounter early windows type bugs. Checkout the known bug list on this site, if you haven't experienced any of them then you have another phone disguesed as a C500 ^_^

I don't know if this is of any help regarding the screen coming on everytime a new mp3 starts playing, but if you activate the keylock on the phone the screens backlight does not come on.

I know that this isn't a full solution as having the keylock on means you can't use bluetooth headset to dial out, but it might help a bit.

Paul.

Cheers Paul it's a thought, the other pottential problem will be that the paddle button or whatever it's called will be inactive preventing track selection/change.
