Guest ablufia Posted October 17, 2004 Report Posted October 17, 2004 first of all - 'hello' ! i've been looking round the site for a couple of weeks now to help me decide if i wanted a new fangled smartphone - the boards swayed my decision - great phone (!) so far - i have searched the boards to see if there is already a solution to this problem, but i couldn't find one... i have had my SPV C500 for 2 days now, and have done the following to it; 1. installed a new homescreen using the ruttensoft homescreen designer 2. installed betaplayer 3. installed an example avi created with DVDtosmartphone 4. installed some midi ringtones 5. edited and renamed some profiles 6. cleared the phone down and started all again ! :x :?: the problem i have is that i now cannot access 'date and time' in 'settings' (when i try it just gives me 'error - the settings could not be opened') - which is no use as i wish to set the alarm ! :?: this happened yesterday as well (i had installed the alarm plugin from the ruttensoft package, and when things went pear shaped i thought it may have been that that was messing the OS up) but as i had not done much to the handset then, i used the 'clear storage' option and started again... today i made sure that, after i had installed/re-installed the software, the 'date and time' settings could be accessed - which they could. i find it weird that this has only occurred in the evenings (?!) OR am i doing something wrong ?! thanks for having a look - any ideas/solutions would be much appreciated ! ablufia ^_^
Guest awarner [MVP] Posted October 17, 2004 Report Posted October 17, 2004 Your problem is normally caused by corruption to the registry. The normal fix is to either to try uninstalling plugins etc or to do a Hard Reset
Guest ablufia Posted October 18, 2004 Report Posted October 18, 2004 cheers for the response awarner ^_^ can i just clarify what you've said ? "Your problem is normally caused by corruption to the registry. The normal fix is to either to try uninstalling plugins etc" by this i presume you mean removing the the homescreen design i installed using the ruttensoft package, as this uses the icon bar|profile|clock|calender plugins ? (does this mean i'll never be able to customize my homescreen ?) "or to do a Hard Reset" see post below ! :!: does this negate having to worry about the first part (ie. will i be able to use the ruttensoft app to modify my homescreen, and still have an alarm clock) ? many many many thanks for the help ! "there are no stupid questions - but there are a lot inqusitive idiots" :D
Guest ablufia Posted October 18, 2004 Report Posted October 18, 2004 :!::D:!: ...much later... so hard reset has to be started from when the phone is switched off (WTF doesn't the hard reset post say that :!::?^_^ looks to me as if hard reset is the same as the same as 'clear storage' (in accessories) :!: original problem solved by; hard reset / clear storage then using the OTA (whatever that means) unlock :P
Guest awarner [MVP] Posted October 18, 2004 Report Posted October 18, 2004 A Hard reset is slightly different than clear storage and it's best to use both, ie clear storage first then hard reset after. As for the registry problem it may well be just one homescreen or plugin that was causing your problem. This normally happens if the phone encounters a dodgy piece of code.
Guest ablufia Posted October 19, 2004 Report Posted October 19, 2004 cheers awarner :D after all the faffing around i did - the C500 did it again last night and i nearly pulled my hair out - but i discovered that it was only when i set the date format to '19.10.04' ^_^ the fickle finger of microsoft !
Guest Confucious Posted October 19, 2004 Report Posted October 19, 2004 Yes - but who would WANT to set the date format tp 19.10.04 ? ^_^
Guest ablufia Posted October 19, 2004 Report Posted October 19, 2004 ^_^ hahaha - not me ! (not anymore, anyway ) :D
Guest pisquee Posted October 19, 2004 Report Posted October 19, 2004 mine is set as 19.10.04 too and i guess that that is why i cannot access the menu either ... not a big enough problem for me to go through the hassel of a hard reset though! ... is this one in the bugs list?
Guest ablufia Posted October 19, 2004 Report Posted October 19, 2004 ... not a big enough problem for me to go through the hassel of a Hard Reset though! ... is this one in the bugs list? ha ! if i'd known about it then - i wouldn't have bothered with a hard reset ! ^_^ too new to know about the bugs list... EDIT: oh the bugs list (just searched and found) i've added it in.
