Guest paddy pentium Posted October 19, 2004 Report Posted October 19, 2004 hey folks, i hav a n*k*a 6600 with speakeasy (payandgo) O2 sim and trying to get GPRS WEB (not WAP) access via O2 in Dublin, IRELAND (REPUBLIC). I have searched for a valid APN and tried many including "internet", "open.internet", "pp.internet", "pp.internet.o2.ie" and all obvious and not-so-obvious variations on these etc. All give "GPRS: invalid apn" error without fail. Also I tried using the DNS settings for 62.40.32.33 and 62.40.32.34 with user: gprs and pass: gprs but they also give "GPRS: invalid apn"! waaaaaaaaaa! The only APN i can get to work at all is the "pp.wap.o2.ie" apn but this does not support web content only wap... even with this apn i need to use the proxy 62.40.32.40:8080 or i get a "page not found" error. trying to use this with any other browser than the default phone browser gives a "403 access forbidden" error (e.g. a browser such as opera or when using IE when connected via bluetooth as modem for a laptop). Is it a settings or account problem? I already rang O2 and they assssure me that there is noooo problem their side and everything is working...! If there is anyone from anyplace who has got this working please be so kind as to give me a hand. God bless! paddy
Guest ferret Posted October 19, 2004 Report Posted October 19, 2004 Hee hee, you might want to remove the Nokia reference in your post! Have you tried searching in the GPRS Settings artice? (click on the link). Welcom to the site.
Guest martin Posted October 19, 2004 Report Posted October 19, 2004 I believe the GPRS internet service should be the following. APN: pp.internet Username: gprs Password: gprs DNS 1: 62.40.32.33 DNS 2: 62.40.32.34 If you get an APN error then try asking O2 to enable the GPRS Internet service on your account (explain to them that you are NOT talking about GPRS WAP service). The Nokia 6600 only comes with a WAP 2.0 XHTML browser installed so you will need to purchase a full internet browser on the software market. I have no idea which comes recommended so you will need to have a search through the Nokia forums ^_^ Hope this helps.
Guest paddy pentium Posted October 19, 2004 Report Posted October 19, 2004 ok i have removed the "n" word from the original post, sorry i didnt realise it was verboten to mention dat in this forum  i tried the settings mentioned and got naught but the old invalid gprs again rang o2 support... after 20mins on hold i am now trying to explain to the lovely lassies in o2 support the difference between wap and web... and why i want the one rather than d'other... thanks for ur help so far... guess its a lost cause if the o2 people cant tell the difference... ah well such times wer sent to try men's souls...
Guest martin Posted October 19, 2004 Report Posted October 19, 2004 Tell them you want to use your prepaid SIM in a pocket PC (i.e XDA II) and see if they can set it up that way.
Guest awarner [MVP] Posted October 20, 2004 Report Posted October 20, 2004 ok i have removed the "n" word from the original post, sorry i didnt realise it was verboten to mention dat in this forum  He was joking m8 ^_^
Guest paddy pentium Posted November 1, 2004 Report Posted November 1, 2004 ^_^ yaheyyyy... after weeks of seemingly futile struggle against the ginormous slug that is O2 support, at last i got full web access enabled on my wee nokia so i cn use it for modem! thanks to all for your help... the settings were "pp.internet", 62.40.32.33/34 as you said... seems the clowns in the O2 big top didnt enable the web on my account, after telling them i needed for the XDA2 as suggested, suddenly the impossible became a reality... hehehe  wohooo, thanks again lads
