Guest Ras Posted October 21, 2004 Report Posted October 21, 2004 I am now on my 4th faulty E200... The 4 key and joypad failed within 24 hours on this latest one. I spoke to O yesterday and they said I could try a different model of phone. GREAT ^_^ !!! Except the list they offered me was as follows: Palm Trio (not MS Smartphone) :? Nokia 6600 (not MS Smartphone) :P MPX200 (Smartphone 2002) these phones all apparently "meet my specification requirements of a smartphone"... Bo11ox!!! Anybody else been offered replacement phones??? More interestingly, anybody else been offered the C500, the phone which I was refused as a replacement?? :x Any comments would be appreciated as this is starting to do my head in (and I keep getting shot in Doom II) P (frustrated but still smiling) :D
Guest drblow Posted October 21, 2004 Report Posted October 21, 2004 I have had DMR from Orange for a better replacement before - I was in a similar situation with my e200 after 7 replacements. You really need to be talking to line managers, not CS staff - they can't approve anything. Politely ask to speak to a manager at OCS. Obviously this may take a while, but if they aren't available immediately, ask for the name & ext. number of the person you are speaking to, and of the manager. Ask for a callback time (approx). Then if they miss your callback, whcih they frequently do, it gives you some more ammunition about how you are getting messed around! When you get to speak to a manager, try persuading them that as you have had so many problems & replacements, that you would like a phone that works. The manager should concede that none of the DMR options are satisfactory - you don't want to downgrade. You could always try saying that you are prepared to upgrade to a C500, but you would appreciate a token payment from O towards that upgrade. The upgrade fee for a C500 isn't that much, so you might be able to haggle a satisfactory deal. Good luck - but remember, if you lose your rag, & start insulting them, you stand much les chance of getting anything at all. The absolute best tactic with CS is to get them on your side from the start.
Guest amo Posted October 21, 2004 Report Posted October 21, 2004 However, that being said - from a business perspective. Is it really justifiable to replace a discontinued handset with one from the current range when there are others that CAN do the same as the E200? Just my $0.02 ^_^
Guest Ras Posted October 21, 2004 Report Posted October 21, 2004 I can see your point of view (which is, I suspect along the same line of thinking as O), if it were the case!!! My understanding is that the MPX200 doesn't have Bluetooth??? If it did, then I would have no queries "downgrading" to Smartphone 2002, but to be honest, think I will take light of Dr Blow's advice and get chummy with a line manager at O ;-) Cheers Guys P (E200 user, soon to be C500 user)

Until the C500, the e200 was top of the range. & is the e200 now discontinued? Even though Orange are offering the mpx200, which is about a year older than the e200? That all sounds a bit like rubbish to me.

Guest Ras Posted October 22, 2004 Report Posted October 22, 2004 ... you'll never guess the solution they offered me  !!! £179.99 to upgrade to a C500 or... wait for it, £58.00 to buy myself out of the contract and recive a PAC code to transfer to O2/T-mobile who will apparently have smartphones on offer very shortly!!!!! They said that this was the cheapest option for me (...and I spend £70 per month with them) These guys are unbelievable, I was very civil, and offered to upgrade providing they discounted the £179, this was declined! If only another network did have smartphones!!! P :x
Guest amo Posted October 22, 2004 Report Posted October 22, 2004 Do the words "legal" and "contract" hold no value these days? Under the very crudest of business theories, surely you're classed as a good customer because you spend £70 per month with them. However, if they were to spend £179 on you to keep you on the network mid contract, surely you'd not be the "great" customer they thought you were? [edit]Just trying to provide an alternative view from their side to help you understand why they may not be able to authorise the discount[/edit]
