C500 ROM Update error 264

I have read the rom update thread in the news section but thought this deserved a second thread. When I try to update I get the error 264 message, indicating that there is a usb connection error. This can not be so as when you launch the rom update.exe the phone switches to the three coloru typhoon 1pl.100 screen. In the news thread somelse had the same problem but did not report how to fix it. I have even tried a master reset and this did not work.

Can any one advise, I have done all the usual stuff of shuting down the pc and trying again etc.

disable firewalls/ anti virus etc

also make dont connect via a usb hub

I ahve disabled my firewall and do not anit virus running but still have the same problem.

Does anyone have any further advice.

Try another USB post and do not use a hub.

I have tried all the above and have spoken to orange but i continue to get the same error.

This is driving me made now.

I have same, Phone Syncs and installs games perfectly well. What did orange say? I phoned them last night and they didn't know anything about the ROM upgrade, I actually had to email them a link the the upgrade on their website! They finished the call saying they didn't recommend ROM upgrades, or Hard Resets!

I have since Hard Rest, and the problem persists. Orange 3rd line support are supposed to be calling me....

As of 25/10/04 Ornage are still looking at a resolution. I will update when I ahve progress.

I have the same problem, tried all the 'fixes' but same thing happens...most frustrating.

Try running the update from the 3-colored screen.... so hook up your phone when it's in bootloader mode...

... alternatively try a different PC. If ya can...

In the end orange advised to go to a service centre. Instead I tried it on another PC running windows 98 and it worked first time.

Excellent...I just ran the update from another PC and it worked first time and without hitch....let me at those cool games!!!!
