Un-install SP2 - it causes more problems than it fixes.

OK, problem seems to be that I cannot connect the outbound com port from the phone to the laptop. Anyone any ideas how I set this up? If I go to quick connect it only connects the inbound port on the phone (com 6). I have a port available in local services, which is set to connect automatically but is on port 10 which doesn't appear in activesync, both ports are available (ticked) on the phone so what do I do from here. I can't seem to add a port to activesync (com 10 on the laptop) or manually add the port on the laptop so I am stuck.

Fairly sure that the problem lies in the com ports. I have my bluetooth ports from 9-18 and activesync only works up to port 9. I can connect one port but not, it would seem, another - so only 1 way communication. Anyone know how to change port number on laptop or enable activesync to search for more ports. No? Me neither. I'll be using my cable then.

just had a thought - i am connecting the inbound port on my phone (com 6) to my laptop (outbound) on port 9. this means the inbound port on my laptop is on 10 and not available to activesync and not able to hear my phone. don't know whether swapping the ports over will change anything - didn't seem to earlier but that may have been a different problem.

I've had exactly the same problem with my PC/C500 since upgrading to SP2. (belkin BT 100m dongle)

I've finally got it working now. And to tell you the truth i don't think i did anything especially different to anything else I'd already tried dozens of times :?

What finally did it was this: -

deleting all the com ports already mentioned in the "COM Ports" tab in the new SP2 bluetooth settings except for a manually added COM3 I'd been pratting about with

Rebonded from PC - it was already bonded but i checked the "select own passcode" anyway (and this is the bit that i think it did differently this time) it set up new outgoing/incoming ports (COM 4 and 5).

Activesync could now see all ports so just selected COM5 in connection settings as you'd expect

It connected straight away initiating activesync from the phone (I've NEVER been able to initiate a/sync from the PC, even before SP2)

I'm 99% certain that it hadn't set up any COM ports for the phone on any previous attempt but i had never had a problem bonding either from phone or PC - it just missed the COM ports bit out. Starting with an empty COM ports list seems to be the crucial bit but I'm not gonna try and repeat it now in case it doesn't work again

Oh - and I've checked the In- and out-bound COM Ports in BT serial port setup on the phone but don't really know if this made any difference.

Don't bother trying to manually add your own COM ports - i wasted hours on this and it just didn't work (although Activesync could see them...)

Sorry - just read you're probs from the other thread and remembered something else.

Having the BT uncertificated software you get with my BT adapter running at the same time as the new built-in SP2 BT software messed things up too. so i removed the device (incl alll the software) and when windows set it up again i only had one BT icon in my system tray (the nrew SP2 one)rather than the old drak blue one and the new light blue one.

also forgot to say - i ran the c500 update too a couple of days ago and this was the first time i'd tried to get BT running since then so i've obviously set up a new partnership with a/sync. Shame cos know I suppose i can't say for sure whether maybe it was a/sync that had screwed up... might be worth deleting the old partership etc. Although you've prob tried all this before :?

Can't remember who mentioned it but try turning off the firewall in sp2 as it made mine work, i'm currently using the supplied drivers and software instead of the sp2 ones and have had more luck, although mines decided to stop working after making no changes, despite being able to sync my c500 and xda 2 perfectly lastnight

Yeah, it was me who suggested it Twain. And no it doesn't work for me. Think the MS SP2 BT drivers, although no longer present, have stolen some BT com ports numbers, leaving me only 9 and up and activesync only looks up to 9, I believe. So I can make a connection one way, but not the other. I will try from time to time but I hold out very little hope.

*SOME* progress made. Now when I try and connect from my phone it says that the port is being used by another application. The thing is the only com ports connected are 9, which is the serial port for the phone and 11-13 which are used for BT modems (one on my phone, which works perfectly BTW). Port 10 SHOULD be available but I can't see it when I look in the advanced configuration of my widcomm BT adapter - although it is present in system. Does anyone know how I can find out what is using my BT port on com10 or if there is a command line prompt to close that port?

Nope - I have set up two phones to activesync via BT under XP SP1 but this problem is different. The problem, I think, is that the BT ports I have available on my laptop are NOT available in activesync, which only looks up to com port 9. To be honest I no longer care - I like the fact I sync music directly to my device in WMP10 which you can't do over BT and the data transfer rates are much faster over a direct cable and I CAN use the bluetooth modem.
