When a phone boots up, there are actually THREE stages of screen that appears.

The first one is the dark lakeside type view, mirrored on the waterline, with the Orange square in the lower middle.

THIS picture is ROM based, so cannot easily be changed, if at all.

The next screens are the Windows Mobile ones, and these can be changed to whatever you want.

Many themes out there, such as the Longhorn SPV or Longhorn Pro one, do exactly this, and the shutdown screens too.

Also, a software tool called SmarTweak allows this too.

BUT, the problem with the SmarTweak tool that ALWAYS drove me mad, and the author never fixed, is that it doesn't just change the settings you alter, it changes ALL images to default, if you don't alter those too.

So I find the best way to do it is to install something like the Longhorn SPV theme, which will change your boot screens (possibly other dialogues too mind), then when you reboot, simply browse to the new SmarTweak folder in the phone (the theme method 'borrows' this, so it will be there this way too), and overwrite the images there with the ones you want to use yourself.

Then reboot, and YOUR images will be used.

The day someone brings out a piece of software that ONLY alters those images you want changed, and NOT the rest, will be a godsend.
