Getting a C500 - anything I need!?

Hi All,

After getting bored waiting for the SPV M2000 to come out - I decided to go for the C500 after having a play with one in Orange Retail. Just wondered if you guys can suggest any 'must have' apps etc, for the phone? Also, is the headset that comes with the phone ok to listen to stuff through?

Plus, will I need the update from the Orange site or will it have it on already?

Cheers,

Oli

Hey there C500eroonies, you'll find loadsa threads on essential software here, but personally:

1. Mobipocket's great for eBooks, especially with the Word plugin (to convert .txts, .htmls .docs, etc), and the eNews seems better than Avantgo.

2. Picodrive is a fantastic Megadrive emu, the C500 multipress prob can spoil some games though.

3. Betaplayer for the handheld cinema (PocketDivxEncoder to convert)

4. Smart Explorer/SP Task manager

5. BTToggle's handy for Bluejacking!

6. Excellent non-emu games: Chess genius, Doom, Eclipse, Links, Pocket Minigolf, Pool challenge, Worms, SPVman/Invaders

Theres gotta be loads more I'm misssing, but its a start eh? ^_^

More importantly, you'll be needing a mini-SD card.

Everything else depends on personal preference, but all the software you've acquired for previous Smartphones will work with this one.

I'm pretty certain the new ROM will already be installed.

Metro for smartphones is free and great if you use the tube or local rail systens (not mainline) anywhere in the world.

And PHB's regeditor.

Just my 2d's worth.

well i just had to re-install all my apps because the C500 software update wipes the phone, heres what i've installed straight away:

1. xbar2 - main function is the same as the alt/tab function in windows to switch between running applications

2. binarys smartexplorer and taskmanager - the C500 has simalar apps included, but these ones are better

3. Pocketmusic - a bit like winamp for the C500, also includes OGG file support and an equaliser.

4. Betaplayer - fullscreen DIVX player, highly reccomended

and has been mentioned a larger mini-sd card is practically essential, especially if you plan to store any amount of music or video on the phone.

a 256MB card seems the best compromise between space and price.

just got myself a n I-mate sp3..is it really true it can only use a 256mc mini SD?? or can a 512mb still work?

What gives you the idea you can only use 256Mb? Certainly people are using 512Mb cards in the c500 and as they are the same hardware I don't see why you shouldn't be able to use them (or bigger when they are available) in the SP3.

How do you check what ROM version you have? (sorry if this has already been discussed, but I couldn't find it with a searach).

Start / Settings / About

then scroll down to the bit that says "ROM update versions - Operator"

New ROM is 4.1.1.4 I think
