Just got off the phone with Orange CS and I am ANNOYED. I have a LOT of dust under the screen of my C500 and it is severely impairing the use of my phone. I have carefully explained that the dust must be coming from a gap in the casing which is a FAULT. And all they tell me is that it's a Cosmetic Issue and they are not authorized to replace it.

Even though my phone says ORANGE on it and I bought it from ORANGE and it is full of dust and sent to me by ORANGE, I have to now go out of my way to contact HTC which are only open 9-6 Mon-Fri. As I understand since I have bought the phone from ORANGE and they took my money, they should be ensuring that my phone is not faulty. I can accept that if they were just reselling the phones that I would need to contact the manufacturer, but they replace phones themselves for other reasons so why not for this fault?!!!

Sorry to hear that. I was hoping the C500 wouldn't suffer from dust under the screen, but obviously it does. ^_^

The build of the C500 reminds me of my old Nokia 8210 - so when are HTC going to start designing phones with a removable/replacable fascia like Nokia? They must have replaced hundreds of SPV/E100/E200's due to dusty screens so why not just have a removable front cover?

Hmm.... some people seem to have been unlucky with the dust thing. Given that it affects all the phones, and seems to depend on where you keep it more than anything else (and, from a technical standpoint, it doesn't prevent the use of any phone features), I would be very surprised if you managed to get a replacement out of anyone. Very annoying problem, though.

A search on these forums should produce 2 methods of removing or at least alleviating the dust issue.

One involves a vacuum cleaner and a small plastic nozzle, the other a compressed air can... availalble from most computer suppliers.

This issue has been discussed at length here.

As you will see, Orange will replace the phone if you talk to the right people....possibly even send you a nice silver one.

I had a major dust problem on my second replacment (the first had a blown pixel, but no dust!). I spoke to Orange nicely and they said that as I was within the 28 day statutory rights period they would replace it........and they did (logged it as a screen fault). I've had the new one for about 2 weeks now and don't have the slightest bit of dust under the screen so it could be a build quality issue.

BTW I tried the hoover method mention in other posts but that didn't work.

I've had 3 new c500's now, becuase of dust, the joystick and button problems. I noticed that 1 of the 3 didn't get any dust under the display, So most phones are built very bad. That was always the problem with htc, build quality. I had the first iPAQ and there were a lot of problems with that to. And it were all build problems.

To be honest I am still miffed. How can people accept a problem like this and go about with hoovers and such to remove the dust!!

It is not my problem at all if the phone is faulty so why in the world should I have to sort it out! I don't expect my new TV to get dust under the screen and same goes for my phone!

I think that Orange have had so many calls they are just denying all knowledge of this fault and are saving themselves the hassle of replacing them all!!

Under the Sales of Goods Act I should be entitled to a refund or replacement. I feel like going to Watchdog or something! Think I better had email them anyway.

I am not a complainer but this takes the biscuit. I'd say that most would think if you got a Sony TV or something from say Comet and you had a problem like this you'd take it straight back to Comet! Not have to contact Sony yourself and get it sorted! Orange are just passing the buck.

What do you guys think?
