Guest AndyBottomley Posted October 25, 2004 Report Posted October 25, 2004 Hi all, Just in case anyone else is having the same problem.... I had ActiveSync working fine over Bluetooth for a week or so and then all of a sudden (after installing Smartphone SDK, VS.NET etc) it stopped working. I was getting a 'COM port is unavailble/Cannot open COM port' type message when the machine booted. Turned out that in A/Sync config settings the COM port was always defaulting back to COM1. Mine connects on COM3 and no matter what I did the system would always default back to COM1 on boot. The solution was quite simple - in the registry under HKEY_CURRENT_USERSoftwareMicrosoftWindows CE Services you'll find an entry 'SerialPort' - simply delete/rename this entry and that will fix the problem. The system will then pick up the value from the equivalent area in HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE (which if you check will be set to the COM port you require). Hope this helps someone - the problem had me scratching my head for days !
Guest craigp Posted October 26, 2004 Report Posted October 26, 2004 Genius! I've just installed dotNet, etc also ... identical problem. One less thing to do after each reboot! Many thanks!! ^_^ Craig
Guest AndyBottomley Posted October 26, 2004 Report Posted October 26, 2004 It's good that you've experienced the problem under the same circumstances (in a perverse kind of way) = I wasn't sure that .NET had caused it but now I am more convinced. Mods: Don't want to cross-post - maybe this thread should be in the .NET Compact Framework forum ?
Guest Dr Who Posted October 27, 2004 Report Posted October 27, 2004 Mmmmm, must try this. Had a similar problem since sorting out a BT mess caused by an SP2 upgrade. Are you talking about editing the phone or the PC???
