Guest Lammypie Posted October 25, 2004 Report Posted October 25, 2004 Hi, I had a C500 for about a week, and took it back (contractrual reasons) I am now thinking of getting it again, now that I have got the deal that I want. However during that week, I was very disappointed with the phone for the reasons below. On this site a lot of people say its very complicated and takes a lot of digging to find its full capability. Therefore can I do this: 1) I like recieving delivery reports, but I hate the fact that they come as a whole new text message. I am used to the Sony Erriccson style of simply updated the item in sent items to include a tick, so that you know it has been delievered, rather than a whole "New Text message" notification. How can I adjust this on the C500 (can I write a new script to alter this) 2) New tones for text messages, wouldn't work from the SD card or from storage directory, they had to be placed in the windows folder. How can I adjust this so it looks at the storage card, as there is not much space on the windows folder. 3) There is no function for a repetitive alert for a text message that has not been read. For example when recieved it would sound an alert, then if not read in 10 minutes, keep sounding reminders (like samsung phones do). I could not believe on an advanced phone like this I could not find how to do this. I would like these functions, so I appreciate any advice you can give me? Kind Regards Chris
Guest shadamehr Posted October 25, 2004 Report Posted October 25, 2004 My advice then, would be, "don't get the C500" - but ONLY on the basis of the things you want it to do, that to the best of my knowledge, it can't do. Having said that, you talk about things there, that I have not heard of in other phones, so it's a bit much to expect.
Guest shadamehr Posted October 25, 2004 Report Posted October 25, 2004 For SMS tones on SD, try this thread though: http://smartphone.modaco.com/viewtopic.php...2220&highlight= And if that's old, there is ANOTHER thread about the 2004 version, so do a Forum Search for SMS Beta 2004 after reading that thread.
Guest Lammypie Posted October 25, 2004 Report Posted October 25, 2004 Thanks , that program looks cool. Looking forward to v2. I can assure you that point 1 above is what Sony Erriccson phones (T610, T630) do as standard and point 3 above is done as standard by Samsung phones (E700, E800) It is a shame, that a smart phone can not be customised to do what an ordinary mobile can do, but hey I guess thats life. I might still get it anyway as I like the calendar integration with outlook and free USB cable. anyone else got any ideas?
Guest midnight Posted October 25, 2004 Report Posted October 25, 2004 so, the samsung cannot do no.1 and the SE cannot do no.3????? so, no ordinary phone can do both? cant blame the c500 then can you ^_^ my thoughts..... 1, Delivery Reports, people still use those? ah well, it does have a delivery report at least, some phones cant even do that. I just take it for granted the message is received by the other person (lets face it, how many failed deliveries do you get?) 2, Err, you can store them in Storage, in My Documents, but must be in wav format. 3, I made a tweak ages ago that flashes the led every second instead of every 3 seconds if you recieve an sms/email/mms until you press a key on the keypad. So, even if you dont see your phone for 2 days you'll notice instantly without looking at the screen you have a message. I dont personally like the idea of it reminding you with a tone every X minutes, even more annoying if you leave your phone on your desk for a long time and other people hear it beeping every 10 minutes. I can see that phone going out of the window :D
Guest pisquee Posted October 25, 2004 Report Posted October 25, 2004 I use delivery reports more for showing when a text is delivered, as I do take it as a given that the text will be delivered, but if someone's phone is off or not in signal it is a useful way of finding out when they are contactable again.
Guest chucky.egg Posted October 25, 2004 Report Posted October 25, 2004 But dont delivery reports show that it was delivered to the recipients SMSC, not to their actual phone? I could be wrong on that, but that was what I always "understood" it to be
Guest pisquee Posted October 25, 2004 Report Posted October 25, 2004 when the phone gets a message delivered to it, which has had a delivery report requested, it sends a message back to the message centre, and then onto the original sender's phone.
Guest olly_k Posted October 25, 2004 Report Posted October 25, 2004 Yeah my T68 had the 'ticked message' delivery report which I found much easier than this system - you would think they could at the very least assign a name to the report :? And one other thing - I wouldn't let the three things above put you off what is generally a great phone. Don't forget the more people who use these phones the better chance we may have of getting what WE want in future updates ^_^ or maybe not!
Guest David5093 Posted October 25, 2004 Report Posted October 25, 2004 I was looking for the LED flash tweak for a while, cant find it in the reg tweak thread was in a seperate one here http://smartphone.modaco.com/viewtopic.php?t=88054 in case anyone else apart from me was wondering Dave
