Guest Me222 Posted October 25, 2004 Report Posted October 25, 2004 Hi, I currently have a Treo 600 on Orange, and it works well. But, I can now upgrade and I have found the Treo to bit a bit too large over the last 12 months. So, I'm now looking at the C500. However, one of the main uses of my phone is to remotely admin servers via SSH (SSH2). I have looked at various threads on this, but none seem conclusive. So, is there an SSH client that will work well with the C500? It looks like the phone will be ideal for me if there is. Cheers, Chris
Guest scopes64 Posted October 25, 2004 Report Posted October 25, 2004 Read your post and went digging and came across a java midlet that will add SSH capabilities to the C500. I hunted for a native windows mobile program but had no look. The midlet I found is FloydSSH and can be found here http://phoenix.inf.upol.cz/~polakr/download.html I have installed on the phone and it seems to work. I think to font is a little small but its usable. It's probably not ideal but at least shows the flexibility of the C500 ^_^
Guest Me222 Posted October 25, 2004 Report Posted October 25, 2004 Cheers scopes64. Any chance you could post some screenshots of what it looks like so I can see how useable it is? Were you using SSH2? I dont need to be able to do a great deal via SSH. Just log in, run top, kill processes, reboot etc....nothing major, just simple admin stuff.
Guest Me222 Posted October 25, 2004 Report Posted October 25, 2004 Have a good look at the link you gave, and it seems a side project at http://www.xk72.com/midpssh/ claims to fully support the C500 and SSH2. If scopes64 or any other kind people out there could test this out for me, I would be most grateful. Screenshots would be great too ^_^
Guest Lojt Posted October 27, 2004 Report Posted October 27, 2004 Well, it seems to work ok, but i have no server running atm so i can't test connection.
Guest Me222 Posted October 27, 2004 Report Posted October 27, 2004 Thanks Lojt. I have just ordered my free upgrade, so should be able to test this myself tomorrow when it arrives ^_^
Guest exe Posted October 27, 2004 Report Posted October 27, 2004 Just tested the full midpssh client with passthrough connection, connected fine, logged in fine, in general fine :D I was also looking for such a client, nice find ^_^
Guest Me222 Posted October 27, 2004 Report Posted October 27, 2004 Fantastic. I presume it will be ok with a direct GPRS conncetion? Was that test via SSH2 at all? How did you find the ctrl-C and other multiple key presses? Sorry about all the questions, but I would be gutted if my new phone couldnt do this most important task for me!
Guest exe Posted October 27, 2004 Report Posted October 27, 2004 Yes the connect was via SSH2, the multiple keypresses are a bit akward but there are shortcuts for most of the keys needed so i guess it needs a bit of getting used to it (i only played with it for about 10 minutes). I cant test gprs since im using pay as you go, but i cant find a reason why it wouldnt work.
