Organising Start Menu?!?

Hi,

I've read a thread that lets you rearange items on the Start Menu using a registry tweak. But what id like to know, is can you organise items into folders on the start menu? Mine is getting rather long, and i think it would be better if i had similar applications in thier own folders.

Is it possible?

Thanks

Yes you can.

You will either need a file manager on your phone or be able to browse your phone in windows explorer when you're connected via ActiveSync.

Then you can go into the Start Menu folder which is usually found in StorageWindows or IPSMWindows depending on your phone model.

You can create or remove folders and place menu items in them quite easily.

Hmm, i tried that before, but when moving the items into the folders i get 'Access Denied' ^_^

Im trying to move Camera and Video Recorder into one folder, but it wont let me :D

Any ideas?

EDIT: It works via File Manager on the C500, strange. Wonder why it doesnt work thro Windows using Active Sync?!

Have a C500 ? You have to remove the certificationlock in order to move / delete things in that directory. This can be done Over The Air through Orange. Do a search for "OTA" here on Modaco and you'll soon find out how. ^_^

Thanks, that explains it ^_^

Unfortunatly, i cant do that yet, as we had some problems in the phone shop when i got my C500, and well basically im waiting for Orange to send out my SIM card :P So at the moment im still using my Vodafone one on the now unlocked C500 :D

Is there a way to remove the certification lock that isnt through Orange?

You can still use OTA ! I have never had an Orange sim in my life and I've used OTA severall times :P

Accessories

Games

Multimedia

Communications

It is worth the trouble indeed, i hate having everything disorganized as it is in the "original" startmenu when you first turn on the phone ^_^

Now it looks like this :

Is there a way to do this on the 5600? I can't move shortcuts into subfolders.

Is there any sort of application- or certificationlock on the 5600 like the C500 has out of the box ??

That would prohibit you from moving files in certain areas..

Yes. There is a low level application SECURITY in place on the 5600 that can be DISABLEd out via old e200 methods. Dont ask me what it is as it's not something we publish here on Modaco. I will say that I have used it on my 5600 and I no longer have security issues.

I've reorganised my start menu and have Oxios plugins installed. The MRU bar at the top now just shows a windows file icon instead of the shortcut and I get an error saying the file cannot be found. I know this is because the files have been moved. How do I link the icons again? Do I have to edit the .xml files?

am i missing something? i have browsed with activesync to storagewindowsstart menu and there are 25 of my start menu shortcuts, ready for me to reorganise into folders. but how can i move the links for inbox, calendar, internet explorer, voice notes, tasks etc - all the ones the phone comes with?

EDIT: Ahhh, that's so basic: tools->folder options->show hidden files!!! job done.

If you have the correct version it will install on 2002 and 2003.

Try www.airfagev.com they should have the correct version.

Hi

Can anybody help or advise?

I have re-arranged my start menu using explorer on my desktop, and nearly everything has worked OK. However the calendar link on my homescreen no longer works and an error reports: "Error opening shortcut or locating the target filename."

This occurs when I click on either of the two options 'Today' or 'New appointment'.

How do I go about fixing this broken shortcut? I have tried to look for the file that represents the shortcut but I have no idea what I am looking for or where it might be.

If anyone could help it would be much appreciated.

Cheers

I see this was a long time ago, but I'm looking desparetly for a way to "unlock" the "security" on the 5600 so I can move around these locked icons/shortcuts. This is driving me NUTS!! I get the "Access is denied" when trying to move certian shortcuts.

Is there somewhere else I can find the "old E200 methods"....?

Thanks for any help!!!
