Guest FrankyG Posted October 26, 2004 Report Posted October 26, 2004 in a word - UNSTABLE Had the phone 24 hrs and so far 1 hard reset, countless battery pulls and general annoyance! I've only been installing homescreens and plugins, which on my Mpx200 installed smootly. In fact, the MPx was so stable that I rarely had to re-boot it, and that's with loads of things installed. Even changing homescreens on the C500 has caused problems, but this might be due to the smartmonitor plugin. Still a nice phone, and I'm hoping that It will settle down a bit. Not quite ready to sell the Mpx200 yet... :?
Guest sparkisgti Posted October 26, 2004 Report Posted October 26, 2004 ive had zero problems with my c500 and i write my own homescreens. but i had no problems with my e200 either ^_^

Mine arrived with it already installed...
Guest spvdk Posted October 26, 2004 Report Posted October 26, 2004 I hope you don't have the update already, because then there's hope. Mine crashed often before, but not a single time since the update.
Guest sparkisgti Posted October 26, 2004 Report Posted October 26, 2004 yep i updated mine in the day it was released.. not crashed before or after..
Guest olly_k Posted October 26, 2004 Report Posted October 26, 2004 I have had the odd 'bug' from installing various peices of software not compatable with the phone (and I have installed a lot - had about 10 h/screens on at one point) and never had to hard reset, until I upgraded :? Now I seem to have quite a few little annoying bugs that a h/reset doesn't get rid of
Guest peekie Posted October 27, 2004 Report Posted October 27, 2004 my c500 seems to work ok , ive not had to hard reset it yet and i have not yet installed the update
Guest Chaser81 Posted October 27, 2004 Report Posted October 27, 2004 Not had to hard reset here either, though I have updated, but it did crash on me a few times (pre-update), but no more than any other phone I have had previously. They are complicated pieces of kit, they will mess up occasionally. Reboot and carry on with it.
Guest FrankyG Posted October 27, 2004 Report Posted October 27, 2004 Looks like another hard reset coming on  This time I had just installed cab file from customcabbage.co.uk, worked ok..then just sittting connected via USB cable to pc and it becomes unresponsive. Disconnect from cable, try to revive it by power cycle and nada...stuck at the windows mobile boot screen. Tried again, nothing. This really hacks me off :!: Might well be sending back if this keep us. disappointing
Guest midnight Posted October 27, 2004 Report Posted October 27, 2004 dunno whats wrong with your c500, however...... some things dont work on the C500, especially some of the registry tweaks, but personally, mine doesnt crash unless 'I' do something wrong. (and you know me, i'm always messing with the phone)

(and you know me, i'm always messing with the phone) yeah, I'm getting the impression that there's a few problems...is there a list anywhere of what does/doesn't work? Maybe thats the sort of thing found in the relevant threads, which is a mighty pest as I don't want to read through all the posts for each tweak/homescreen/app that I install :!: I'm the same, always messing with the phone..that's why we have smartphones..yeah?! right now I'm using the default windows homescreen with nothing fancy at all...a total waste of a smartphone! And now my wireless network has just packed up at home... :?
Guest David5093 Posted October 29, 2004 Report Posted October 29, 2004 Ive had the C500 for 3 days now and so far had no problems at all with it. I previously had a Nokia 6600 and after using it i think ill stick with the smartphone format from now on, non smatphones just dont cut it. I decided to change from symbian as there is a greater level of customisation involved with the MS smartphones and a greater number of apps and games available. The one thing i do miss however is that i find symbian to be a lot easier to get to grips with, the learning curve isn't as steep. This is a minor gripe though as i remember moaning about using symbian for the first time, as far as im concerned im taking a step up. I must say though i prefer messenging on the symbian platform just looks more professional in the layout rather than the barebone screen on MS smartphone when textin. Also i liked how you could arrange all your apps into folders rather than having long lists of programs on the MS platform. Not sure yet but i think you should be able to do this on MS just not took the time as yet. With regards to the C500 it doesn't feel as solid in construction as the nokia 6600. I had no problems before when i dropped my 6600 but the C500 just feels like it wouldn't take a knock to well. Also the battery cover on the C500 doesn't fit securly enough, there's a bit of movement in that area when holding the phone. I think people mentioned that the refresh rate on the C500 camera was very good, its ok but i think the 6600 may have been better along with the picture quality but this statement could be pre-mature as ive not had it long, just first impression. So overall im very impressed with the C500, mine came with the latest firmware and as said so far no problems. Just need to get myself a meaty mini SD card now. P.S. Is there an IR remote app for MS smartphones that can change tv channels and the like?
Guest Cloda Posted October 30, 2004 Report Posted October 30, 2004 Hell FrankyG, if you're that disappointed take it back! Imagine, some software that works on WM2002 doesnt work so well on WM2003, like its a new OS or something! I've got loadsa homescreens and all sorts on my C500 (post update) with only a couple of crashes, and then after doing silly stuff. Fantastic phone still (even though my first dust is just appearing. Bugger).
Guest RT87 Posted October 31, 2004 Report Posted October 31, 2004 I've had my phone about 3 weeks now, and only know after installing loads of homescreens etc am I seeing problems. A few days ago my volume buttons stopped working(working again as of today though), the phone is running pretty slow and suddenly when the phone is plugged into the computer and I have transfered a few files the backlight just stops coming on. I have to restart the phone for it to work. I'm expecting to do a hard reset soon. After that i will probalby be a little easier on it!
Guest tefal la Posted October 31, 2004 Report Posted October 31, 2004 I had to return my original unit because the speaker did not work but I think this is the best phone since the nokia 7110 changed the way phones worked. As a slight caveat some of the changes are not that intuitive for non techies
Guest dolbyman Posted October 31, 2004 Report Posted October 31, 2004 just got my c500 today wow its awesome compared to spv original its far superior best phone out there in my opinion do you know where i could get a case for it (designed for actual c500 phone)
Guest webcash Posted November 1, 2004 Report Posted November 1, 2004 You can get a Krussel case for it from http://www.mobilefun.co.uk/product/4245.htm Thats what i use and so far am pretty delighted with it.With regards to the c500 and smartphones in general i think its fair to say that these phones can actually be most things to most people. In other words most people in this site tend to like fiddling messing and trying to extract every last drop of performance from their phones but equally the c500 will work just as well for a 3310 person (even if it is a waste.)So if you are considering getting one then i say jump on board and watch as the phone GROWS with you ^_^ Peter
Guest FrankyG Posted November 2, 2004 Report Posted November 2, 2004 I DID have to perform another Hard Reset, but I think I've found the culprit. I was trying to get Drblows Silvertabs homescreen working, but that requires a few extra plugins to be installed. Since the last reset I haven't bothered with Silvertabs and it's been ok. Using iCandy and Gant homescreens which are great to. Now, before poiting the finger at any particular homescreen or plugin, I should also mention that most of the lock ups seem to occur when the phone is connected to the PC , and I have Activesync remote display running. This could be the culprit, but I don't want to test it and face another HR :!: Does anyone else use Activesync remote display regulary without problems? Yes it is a great phone, but like anything, can be frustrating when it crashes without explanation :? oh, you should all download the Mobiluck software; lots of fun to be had there ^_^
