Bought a C500 last week. Mainly purchased it for the contract (moving from O2 to Orange - get a 1000 texts with Orange!)

However, I've not really used the C500 that much yet, as I'm finding it difficult to convert from my SE K700i. I know the 2 phones are worlds apart, and the C500 is a class above, but I really am missing a number of features from my SE phone

1. Being able to select a word in predictive text after moving past the word, i.e. when selected wrong word in error.

2. Not getting a picture up when I receive a text.

3. Not having the ability to set quick keys (or can this be done)

4. Not being able to use MP3's as ringtones.

5. No light on the camera

6. As a MAC user, the compatilibilty doesn't seem as good.

I know the above may seem petty, but are things that I like/use regularly on my SE phone.

Will I ever get over these? Or am I not giving the phone enough of a chance? There are some superb features on the C500 that I really like, such as MSN, email, etc. However, I cannot decide whether I just like the simplicity of a standard phone as opposed the the smartphone.

Can anyone help me and convince me the C500 is the one for me??

Cheers

1. Can't do and miss this a bit but you do get use to it :?

2. Not sure of this one but I guess this is linking piccy to a specific number with text messages? You don't get ticks on deleivered messages either which I miss...

3. If you mean Speed dials yes you can have any number of speed dials and tag them to programs too - select contact, click to bring up numbers then click menu. Speed dials are number 1 I think. Do the same for programs under start menu. To edit speed dials / Voice tags goto Start>Accessories>Speed Dial. You seem to be able to have an unlimited number as well which is good ^_^

4. Use WMA's instead... These are smaller than MP3's and sound as good if you consider there size - certainly more than good enough for ringtone! - see threads to convert to WMA in forums.

5. I think the K700 generally has a better camera than this phone but from what I have heard the LED doesn't make a great difference anyway.

6. Can't comment on that

Give this phone a bit of time and I am sure it will grow on you. Also bear in mind it is very early days for this model yet so hopefully Orange will sort issues out in the near future (although not holding breath for above)

Hope that was useful?

Thanks for your response! Answer 3 is excellent! Cheers!!!!

Re: WMA's - I can't find a MAC compatible convertor anywhere. Had a look around last week, on download.com & tucows. Aaagh!

I must be honest and say I am impressed with the camera on the C500 although it is darker than the SE one. However, the light you can set on the SE (like a flash) is a godsend.

I suppose its like you say. Play around and get used to it. I need to have a good few days solid use out of it before making a decision.

Oooh no no no no!

Tranistioned to Mac last year. Far superior! Not one virus or system crash since! (got fed up after being a PC user and IT support of for 10 years!)

Another question I have - when I do send and receive for email, it shows as though its downloading all messages everytime I run this. Anyway this can be stopped? I have the setting set as download 'Today's messages'

How are you getting on now with your c500.I think my two penneth would be that i got bored with the k700i within about 2 weeks and now rarely if ever use it.There is relatively little upgrade or application enabled change that you can make .The spv on the other hand can and does grow with you and if you are someone like me who one week wants music and the next week games then within reason the c500 will be able to accommadate you easier and with more choices.Let us all know how you get on

Peter
