Guest feck_on_a_stick Posted October 28, 2004 Report Posted October 28, 2004 Ok this isnt exactly a smartphone question but you guys are alot smarter than me and Id feel guilty asking O Customer Service incase it isnt exactly proper. Ive a standard Orange contract at the minute with a text bundle attached but Ive got a bit of a text bug at the minute and my bills are still coming out at over £90 quid! (approx 450 - 500 texts a month!) Ive seen these ads in the Sun newspaper for a C500. 200 mins and 500 texts. My contract doesnt run out until February and this advert is very blummin appealing! Ive already a C500 which I paid Orange to upgrade early to. OK here is the plan but is it possible? - Can I have two contracts with Orange?....get this new contract with a brand new C500 (at £30 a month), then sell the new phone on. Take my existing contract down to minimum monthly payment and put the new sim into it? The two contracts combined would still be alot less than Im paying now and selling the C500 would give me some lovely Christmas money ^_^ Any advice people would be great as all this sorta stuff goes way over my head!!! lol Cheers
Guest ajb3000 Posted October 28, 2004 Report Posted October 28, 2004 Yes it would work, but you would of course get a new number.
Guest pisquee Posted October 29, 2004 Report Posted October 29, 2004 February is not long off for an of contract, Although you say you have upgraded to a C500 already, so you realise this extends your contract by 12 months from the point of upgrade? If indeed your end of contract is FEbrauary then call customer services and ask to put through to retentions and discuss your options with them
Guest Confucious Posted October 29, 2004 Report Posted October 29, 2004 The offer in the SUN apperas to be one of the "exclusive" web offeres. If your texts are mainly evening maybe one of the free evening text offers would be better? Their should be no problem doing what you are suggesting providing you can downgrade your existing contract OK - when youi upgraded you didn't commit to a minimum term at the rate you are on?I know when you join/upgrade on 3 they won't let you downgrade your price plan for 6 months. Good luck. ^_^
Guest shadamehr Posted October 29, 2004 Report Posted October 29, 2004 The WEB only offers can be matched by high street stores, give or take any free credit on the bill - but if this is an offer at the time, they can usaully get round this by the return of an old handset to justify offering you the credit. In other words, I took up this very same WEB only 200 Xnet anytime minutes, 500 free texts, £50 credit on bill offer a month or more ago. When I found it was taking for ever, and then that my order had not even started over a week later, I just cancelled, went to my local store, and got exactly the same, except for the £50 credit I had to hand over an ancient 5110 handset.
Guest feck_on_a_stick Posted October 29, 2004 Report Posted October 29, 2004 Cheers guys, Argh! Im still not 100% sure what to do! I never thought that even though I paid to upgrade early that means Im agreeing to extend the contract by another 12 months - Im stupid!!!! ^_^ Then again, its still working out cheaper than what Im paying at the minute. This site kicks ass as usual!!! Thanks again
Guest Confucious Posted October 29, 2004 Report Posted October 29, 2004 You should have been told if you were extending your contract - check. It is possible that you didn't.
Guest webcash Posted November 2, 2004 Report Posted November 2, 2004 Feck what you might want to consider is two things.Firstly you cannot downgrade for 6 months on orange so whatever phone and tariff you go with you are stuck with for a minimum of 6 months. However there may be a solution.Have you considered the 3000 text tariffs that orange do for 20 quid a month. That would give you plenty of texts and there are some phones that you could get on that tariff for free.Worst case scenarion you sell that phone whatever it is for maybe 120 quid and pay that off your line rental giving you a total cost for the year of 120 for 36,000 texts HTH Peter
