Guest stevem999 Posted November 1, 2004 Report Posted November 1, 2004 Only asking cos I've been holding off on buying a Windows smartphone for a good few months since my current contract ended in April. I'd heard about the MPX220 ages ago and liked the look of it, beat the MPX200 because of the camera and bluetooth. However the 220 now seems to be a bit of a duffer with the reports from the States. I also really like the C500 but with my lifestyle I really need a clamshell for the protection it offers. So back to my question - are there any C500 matching/beating clamshells out there, or on the horizon? Or is the MPX220 actually still quite good and worth waiting for on Orange of O2?
Guest pwest13 Posted November 1, 2004 Report Posted November 1, 2004 Have you looked at the Mitac Mio 8390?
Guest gsr264 Posted November 1, 2004 Report Posted November 1, 2004 I own a 220 and while it'sot for everyone, I am satisfied with mine. What are the primry things you'll be doing with the phone?
Guest McHale Posted November 1, 2004 Report Posted November 1, 2004 have you actually *TRIED* an MPx220? I love mine and many others on here feel the same. I've had no problems at all and would buy another if something happened to this one. -Mc
Guest stevem999 Posted November 1, 2004 Report Posted November 1, 2004 I own a 220 and while it'sot for everyone, I am satisfied with mine. What are the primry things you'll be doing with the phone?Well anything I can get it to do really - particularly the PIM functions and synching with calendar etc, camera would be nice but this seems to be the 220's achilles heel. As I've never had such a sophisticated phone before it's a bit difficult to know exactly what I'll do with it to be honest. I can see me using it as a bit of music player now and then, perhaps loading a few apps but guess these run as well on a 220 as a C500 or some other derivative, do they? Also interetsed in e-mail on the move, being able to get my e-mail from various accounts whilst out and about sounds good. Did I also hear something about 'Blackberry' push-email functionality? have you actually *TRIED* an MPx220? I love mine and many others on here feel the same. I've had no problems at all and would buy another if something happened to this one. Answer - No! Not available in any real way in the UK yet so I haven't used it, just been surfing the net and the usual forums etc to glean opinions from those around the world that have got it. As MPX220 supporters, what are the main differences/plusses/minuses over a C500 (other than the form factor of course) - are there any basic differences or does the same OS mean the same functions essentially? Are there any really basic mobile phone-type things it won't do that you would expect e.g. ring and vibrate at the same time (something one of my earlier 'wants' wouldn't do - a P900/910!
Guest aznsolo Posted November 2, 2004 Report Posted November 2, 2004 im using the mpx200, awesome phone
Guest stevem999 Posted November 3, 2004 Report Posted November 3, 2004 Have you looked at the Mitac Mio 8390? Sorry pwest13, had a look at the Mitac and it's a nice phone, no bluetooth mind! However probably the main problem is that it's unlikely to be available on any sort of contract in the UK, I'm not going to have the funds to buy sim-free! So McHale and gsr264 - any thoughts on my comments? Cheers
Guest stevem999 Posted November 4, 2004 Report Posted November 4, 2004 bump! No-one got any more thoughts? Even those that asked for extra comment!
Guest Confucious Posted November 4, 2004 Report Posted November 4, 2004 Why do you need a clamshell? Give the C500 a go ^_^
Guest stevem999 Posted November 4, 2004 Report Posted November 4, 2004 Why do you need a clamshell? Give the C500 a go Well I've given the screen of my current phone a good few clouts and it's in and out of my pocket a lot with keys, wallets, odd bits and pieces from my job etc. I know I could get a case for a C500 but it just wrecks the looks doesn't it!? The C500 is burning a hole in my pocket as I've been out of contract since April but just want something that'll last me a few years now rather than changing phone annually - am I getting old and mature now? Oh dear.
Guest Confucious Posted November 4, 2004 Report Posted November 4, 2004 I'm old but wouldn't go as far as mature.... I'm not sure that any phone (apart from a basic one) will last for years as technology is constantly improving and if you are on contract upgrades can ussually be had for nothing but I suppose keys and knocks could ruin your phone. Good luck finding the phone that's right for you.
Guest Pigo Posted November 5, 2004 Report Posted November 5, 2004 I can understand your concernes. I have a Mpx200 but want something better! have been waiting for a clamshell device for a while now but little is small/good enough to be worth the wait. only thing that's good enough (but sadly not small enough) is the MPx it's big but has touch screen and the works. Think I'm gonna go for the Qtek 8020 though. I'll just have to be extra carefull of it. Good luck with your choise. Pigo
Guest stevem999 Posted November 5, 2004 Report Posted November 5, 2004 Thanks Pigo - if you're going to look at the Qtek, I guess that you've been put off the 220 but either the wait or the problems with the phone?
Guest Pigo Posted November 5, 2004 Report Posted November 5, 2004 Well the problems aren't that bad as I've read here in the forum, but the size is just to big to follow up a allready enormous phone. just read somewhere that the battery life of the MPx(300) is worthless! Great going Moto :x That means that there are not enough new clamshell smarrtphones coming to the market any time soon. Hope they fix the battery life before they release it! (knowing moto they probably won't) Pigo
