SMT5600 Joystick - An Idea?

Well, here's my first post. I just recieved my Audiovox SMT5600 from amazon.com (woohoo! -$25!), and have been messing around with it for a while. One thing I noticed (and also read in reviews), is the joystick isn't very good for action games. The numbers are slightly better, but that is only if your game supports changing the controls.

Then another thought popped into my head. Why not allow controllers on the phone?

Here's my idea: Get a USB gamepad, get a USB Female to mini USB Male converter, and then write a middle man application to emulate what game pad buttons are pressed into phone button presses. The application would run in the background, so you would only have to start it up, and then start up your favorite game!

Now here's some problems that I haven't thought of yet:

[*]Is there a USB Female to Mini USB Male converter?

[*]Can an application receieve input from that port?

[*]Can an application emulate phone joystick button presses?

Can anyone answer those questions, or do you have any questions / comments?

If only it was that simple. There were quite a few posts like this when the C500 first appeared.

The C500 is, and can only be, a 'slave' so that would mean that the keyboard or joypad device would have to act as the USB Host (master) which is Unlikely to say the least! www.usb.org for more info.

Aha! someone else was thinking about this.

my contribution to the debate is - if usb is out for a gamepad controller, could bluetooth not be used? Granted there are no (?) bluetooth gamepads out there, but surely it would be worth doing for all those phone gamers who are wrecking their keypads. :)

Does that work on the SmartPhone :?:

It looks good, but I don't know if I am up to carrying around a device like that with me when I want to play games its bigger than the phone itself :-s

well, it would only work on game programmed to work with it of course, but technically it should be possible so long is it pairs correctly like all other BT devices.

i just posted that though to show that BT controllers DO exist.

Couldnt we create a background application that would translate the joystick presses to regular key presses. The phone wouldn't know the difference, but you would :)

Hey if an addon could be made to make that work with Eclipse I might be able to finish the game :)
