Guest FLAME1222 Posted November 5, 2004 Report Posted November 5, 2004 Just like the topic says, front LCD will display a different name then the phone does when I flip it open. Quite bizzarre, seems to do this with only one of my contacts.
Guest awarner [MVP] Posted November 5, 2004 Report Posted November 5, 2004 Do you have 2003 on your phone? otacon appears to be the only other person who has reported this problem.
Guest inspectorgadjet Posted November 5, 2004 Report Posted November 5, 2004 That's not true. This topic has been reported on ages ago by me. It happened on both the 2002 and 2003 OS. Basically, I was using a Vodafone sim and their voice mail number is 121, so everytime I got a voicemail call, it displayed one of my contact's names instead. Her number had 121 in it. I could never get it to go away. I tried creating contacts for voice mail. I tried putting the full voicemail number in, and only the shortcut, but nothing helped. The only way to make it not display her name was to remove her number which didn't help me.
Guest fowen1 Posted November 6, 2004 Report Posted November 6, 2004 I have had this problem also. One of the area codes around here is 623. When someone calls from my work, it shows there extensions. I put in peoples extensions so I knew who was calling me. Since one of the extensions was 6234, anytime someone would call from a 623 area code, her name would come up since her extension started with 623. I think part of the problem is it looks for the first "possible match" for the number, and then takes it instead of looking for the exact number, which sucks. Try it for yourself. put in a name of "A" and make the number your first three digits of your area code. I am sure when anyone calls you from that area code it will come up with the name. I havent had this problem for quite a few months )since we stopped using that extension), so I may be off a bit with my exact description.
Guest MadSci Posted November 6, 2004 Report Posted November 6, 2004 Frankly, the Caller ID functionality of this phone is pathetic. If Lawyers used Smartphones, we would all have been dragged into a Class Action suit long ago over the numerous features of the Mpx200 that don't work as advertised. Any takers out there? Seems to me that the least Motorolla & ATTws/Cingular owe us is a new 220, assuming we can get some of the "Version 2" ones that actually work, unlike the Best Buy stuff. With almost 1 Million lawyers in the US, somebody ought to want to take this on! [-X
Guest awarner [MVP] Posted November 8, 2004 Report Posted November 8, 2004 one reason why the first thing I do on the MPX is remove Caller ID and the very poor JMMS application.
Guest otacon Posted November 9, 2004 Report Posted November 9, 2004 Hmm... up till now I am still having the same problem. But I am not using Caller ID. I am using the normal phone function that tells the contact when a call comes in... strange...
Guest MadSci Posted November 9, 2004 Report Posted November 9, 2004 one reason why the first thing I do on the MPX is remove Caller ID and the very poor JMMS application. What is the benefit of that? Are you just abandoning the ability to link an incoming phone number with the Contact and ringtones etc? Or are you substituting something more effective? MadSci
Guest awarner [MVP] Posted November 9, 2004 Report Posted November 9, 2004 No, the phone cannot handle custom ringtones unless the file in on the phone and not the storage card IA caller does not effect this in any way. The application it's self slows the phone down and the jmms application causes Inbox to run slow. I prefer a smmother sleaker running phone to clunky software.
Guest MadSci Posted November 10, 2004 Report Posted November 10, 2004 I'm fascinated, and confused. If you have patience to explain it, I think I'd like to try to do as you suggest. ANYTHING that speeds up this phone is worthwhile! So, what does the "Caller ID" app do if not to read the incoming phone number so it is displayed and the appropriate custom ringtone played? How do you "remove" it? Do you need an alternative application to retain functionality? OK, I'm ignorant, but what does JMMS do? Sounds like something to do with MultiMedia Messaging, which I have yet to use and am unlikely to ever need. As above, how do you remove it, and restore it if desired? Many thanks for the time you take to help us relative Newbies out. I wonder if a "Speed Tweeks" forum would be popular? ie one that just deals with tweeks and techniques to help satisfy the "Need for Speed" that this phone engenders? Thanks again, MadSci
Guest awarner [MVP] Posted November 10, 2004 Report Posted November 10, 2004 So, what does the "Caller ID" app do if not to read the incoming phone number so it is displayed and the appropriate custom ringtone played? It is a gimmick application that allows you to assign pictures to contacts How do you "remove" it? If it cam on the phone preinstalled then the only way to remove it is to do a hard reset. If you installed it the it can be removed by going to SettingsRemove Programs Do you need an alternative application to retain functionality?Only if you want to assign pictures to callers OK, I'm ignorant, but what does JMMS do? As above, how do you remove it, and restore it if desired? Remove it the same as Caller ID If ever you wanted to reinstall it it is available on the CD that came with the phone.
Guest MadSci Posted November 11, 2004 Report Posted November 11, 2004 Thanks! That's very clear. Look like they came pre-installed. Don't feel like rebuilding to phone so I think I'll wait until the next time it melts down and needs a hard reset. I'll delete them at that time. Still a little fuzzy on what JMMS does? Thanks for your help! MadSci
Guest ronny Posted November 11, 2004 Report Posted November 11, 2004 Still a little fuzzy on what JMMS does? MadSci it's an application which handles MMS sending, recieving and viewing.
Guest oallostavros Posted January 8, 2005 Report Posted January 8, 2005 So I'd like to remove the preinstalled mms softwear, but I'm hesitant to do hard reset. If I back everything up on Sprite, is it safe for me to do a hard reset? Also, after doing a hard reset, how do I restore some of the settings on my phone from before? Not so interested in the programs (although I don't want to have to reinstall XBar) but definitely would want to keep the phone's settings intact. Thanks.
