Hey all,

I am considering exchanging my Nokia 6600 for a Orange SPV E200 smartphone. *stock permitting at the watford cex store*

Anyway i am looking to upgrade as im believing the spv can bring me the better variation of the following things:

>Video Playback (faster processor and more ram surely will help)

>Stereo MP3

>Louder Loudspeaker with less distortion

>Longer Battery Life***

>Hotswap MMC

>Fair Camera and Video Cam

>Good Expandibility, with new apps and games

>Java

>Hassle - Free Updating.

How this compares:

>Video Playback on 6600 is jerky sometimes and is severely limited, with a microsoft smartphone, 3gp, wmv, avi, and mpeg are at my fingertips, rather than just rm and avi

>Mono MP3 is offered by the 6600 but with Extrenal software, making this a poor show for music.

>Loudspeaker cannot be heard on max volume when on the street or away from it, and it distorts way too easily

>Hmm well the E200 seems to lack this, but maybe with the new rom upgrade from orange, can i pull 1.5 days use without a charge heavy usage with no telecommunications or texts, purely as a mini computer/jukebox?

>I cant stand having to turn my 6600 OFF completely and taking it to pieces everytime i need to change, with SPV E200 mmc is hotswap, and mini sd seems to work , too

>The Camera on the E200 seems nice to me, camera doesn't matter too much.

>The windows smartphone platform is still evolving with new software developed by many developers.

>I believe the E200 supports java for the download of thousands of java games?

>Auto updates mean i can upgrade the device myself :D

Sorry to bore, but now here comes the rest of my post.

I am on Vodafone Contract (3 months have passed) and so intend to trade my 6600 in. I need to be assured i can UNLOCK this phone to work with my vodafone sim, i know there is software to do it, but i need ASSURING!

Also if anyone can give me an idea of the realtime battery life (with/without rom upgrade) and video playback performance i'd much appreciate any quick replies ;)

Thanks for reading and replying!

It's ages since I used my E200, so I can't help with much of that, but I would say that Symbian Series 60 (which is what the 6600 uses I think) has a MUCH bigger range of software available. MS Smartphone software development is picking up pace, but the current range of software is not as varied (or as good in some cases)

Unlocking for Vodafone is easy and fairly cheap -- www.imei-check.co.uk

Software updates are... patchy. A lot of people had a whole new set of problems after the update, so it's not guaranteed to be the answer to all your prayers.

I would also doubt (but someone with an E200 can clarify) that you will get 1.5 days heavy use out of the MP3 player without a charge.

Would have to concur with chucky.egg (didn't you used to be Chris Orton?!) that the E200 battery, even after the most recent update, won't last more then 2days with use.

Having said that, I think most E200 owners have been pretty pleased with the performance of the phone since the latest update. It seemed to eliminate MOST of the bugs without introducing (any?) new ones.

If you want Video then go for the C500 - the processor is a LOT faster than the E200.
