Guest Posted November 6, 2004 Report Posted November 6, 2004 I frequently had problems with GPRS on my E200, where it would either not connect, or web sites would not recognise me (e.g. on Orange's Your Page). To solve this I was always able to select "Detach GPRS" from the Quicklist (accessed by long pressing the home key), and restarting the phone. However this option is now missing post update on my C500, and I have today had the same problems with GPRS. Orange seem unable to resolve the problem. I have found a solution to this, by placing my SIM card into my E200, selecting "Detach GPRS" from the Quicklist, and then re-inserting it into my C500. This is a very tedious procedure, and I am certainly not toing to hang onto my E200 for this use alone! Does anyone know whether the "Detach GPRS" option can be actioned on the C500? For example a registry tweak, or maybe the program is hidden somewhere in the Windows directory?
Guest NIGHTMARE Posted November 6, 2004 Report Posted November 6, 2004 wasnt Detach GPRS the same as hanging up gprs? the setting was there so you could hang up but people these days like to keep it on all the time anyway for many things, their is a easy way to discibect it, just make a phone call!
Guest martin Posted November 6, 2004 Report Posted November 6, 2004 If you turn flight mode off/on then it will detach and re-attach to both the GSM and GPRS networks.
Guest Posted November 6, 2004 Report Posted November 6, 2004 Thanks, I tried that too but it didn't make any difference. Doesn't that have the same effect as turning the phone off then back on?
Guest Confucious Posted November 6, 2004 Report Posted November 6, 2004 Disconnect GPRS should be the first option with the second (and only other option) being Bluetooth Settup. These are the options on my UK C500 with Orange (pre and post update). What do you get when you hold down the Home key?
Guest Posted November 6, 2004 Report Posted November 6, 2004 NIGHTMARE detaching GPRS isn't the same as disconnecting it. And holding the home key on my C500 gives the same two options, 1. Disconnect GPRS and 2. Bluetooth Setup. On the E200 there was a third option, Detach GPRS
Guest martin Posted November 6, 2004 Report Posted November 6, 2004 Thanks, I tried that too but it didn't make any difference. Doesn't that have the same effect as turning the phone off then back on? Turning the flight mode off/on or turning the phone off/on will both do a detach to the networks. Detach is simply changing a flag in the VLR (GSM) or SGSN (GPRS). I suspect your problem is something other than a detach and is related more to the GPRS connection. Orange World possibly didn't recognize you because the page was loaded from phone memory. If you get this again then try a page refresh or try and enter a menu and see what happens.
Guest Posted November 6, 2004 Report Posted November 6, 2004 Thanks martin, already tried that, also tried deleting tempory internet files and cookies first. If it's not related to a detach problem, how come transferring my SIM from my C500 to my E200 and selecting "Detach GPRS" solved my problem?
Guest sunilc Posted November 7, 2004 Report Posted November 7, 2004 i'm having the same problem with orange world not recognising my number, very annoying especially now i cant even watch the men star wars ep 3 trailer! i dont gate an e200 to detach gprs either, what can i do!? Posted from my SmartPhone!
Guest martin Posted November 7, 2004 Report Posted November 7, 2004 I have two phones (different SIMS) and they both state 'unable to check number' for Video downloads in Orange World so I think that service must be down at the moment.
