USB harddisc on a phone

Could sombody please tell me if this is possible.... and if not. why not?

It should somehow be possible to make a hard disc be able to hook up to a phone. I have a MPx200. it has a miniUSB plug. shouldn't that mean that it's possible? and if not that. than couldn't it be hooked up through the SD slot?

this would make things a lot easier for me. have a spare notebook harddrive and a case for it (to make it an external drive) would cost me €25.

cheap way to have a couple of Gig for your mp3's or whatever.

do understand that powersupplie would be a problem... but that's all fixable!.

It can't be a USB host.

SDIO device could be possible I guess, but think the market would be limited to...well you really.
