Guest myjess Posted November 6, 2004 Report Posted November 6, 2004 I bought a card from orcalogic to fit into my C500. But first I put it into my Twinmos 7-1 card reader via the mini SD adapter. I started writing nearly 500MB of data to it.. I put the card into my phone and most of the data I wrote to it, the data in subfolders on the card is not viewable. Somewhere on the phone the card reads that it has very little space left but will not show what I copied over. I then started taking a few videos and after the second one, the video application said that /stoage card/my documents/my videos was no longer a valid path!!!!!!! I could still see MY documents but nothing below my documents was showing in the phone window. I then deleted my documents and let the video app create it again on the fly when I took another video. When I put the mini SD back into my card reader on the PC there is nothing under the my documents folder but when I put the card back into the phone, there is the my music and my videos folders with the video I just created. 1. Does this phone accept long filenames or what's the limit? 2. WTF is going on with the memory card? 3. Somebody take a class action suit out against Orange and HTC for selling something that is not fit for the purpose for which it is sold(trade descriptions act). No wonder there is scant menton of the features in the Ornage user manual. The fecking thing doesn't work properly. If there were proper instructions, people would be phoning the tech support line 156 all the feckin' time!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! ANd no I don't want to send this phone back but I do want ALL the bugs fixed!!!!! Go-on flame me why don't you?
Guest Confucious Posted November 6, 2004 Report Posted November 6, 2004 No where does it say the C500 will support 512Mb MiniSD cards. I believe the limit tested is 128Mb (although I'm sure someone will correct me if I'm wrong) You've probably got it with the long filename bit - try with shorter filenames. Guest myjess Posted November 6, 2004 Report Posted November 6, 2004 There are links to different sites on this forum that state the phone can handle up to 512mb. I have read of people on this forum using 256mb cards with no probs. IS there any way to format this card when it is in the phone?
Guest Confucious Posted November 6, 2004 Report Posted November 6, 2004 I'm sure the phone can handle 512Mb cards - just Orange have never said it could. Try formating the phone in your card reader and copying the data back on using shorter filenames. PS - Sory about the flaming but you did ask for it
Guest myjess Posted November 6, 2004 Report Posted November 6, 2004 Will do that, when I have stopped ranting and raving
Guest Confucious Posted November 6, 2004 Report Posted November 6, 2004 If you can't rant and rave on a saturday night when can you?
Guest NIGHTMARE Posted November 6, 2004 Report Posted November 6, 2004 i have a 512mb mini sd card and it works fine unless you are a power user and want to catch it out! the only issue i have is that it is 489 not 512mb.
Guest myjess Posted November 6, 2004 Report Posted November 6, 2004 Have you got a separate memory card reader on the pc. Have you noticed any filename limitations? Have you tried copying file on the memory card reader and seeing if they are available on the phone? Thx.
Guest the_ugly_north Posted November 7, 2004 Report Posted November 7, 2004 I have a 512MB mini-sd and have had no problems (I have two different card readers as well). Size is not an issue as the phone can handle significantly larger cards (if available); the limit is on the file system (i.e. FAT). Try formatting your card using FAT (sometimes called FAT16) not FAT32. Then add some files and see. It might just be a compatability issue with the card for some reason not all sd cards work in all devices....
Guest myjess Posted November 7, 2004 Report Posted November 7, 2004 I reformatted the card as FAT32 and it works a treat now. Although I stil have to see about long filenames but the data is viewable by both the card reader and the phone. www.binarys.com Task manager has an SD formatter if anyone is interested.
