Individual (personal) ringtones on the C500

I copied over a load of midi files but could not add them ad personal caller ringtones. Phone said something like bad format. But the ringtones play perfectly well when I have them as ordinary 'sound' ringtones.

Anyone have any ideas as the Oange manual is a joke?

Thx.

where have you copied the tomes onto exacly, if it is the storage card, their is no way you will get them to work(i read that in another thread), i think thier has always been a issue with custom tones and personal ringtones.

having said that their may be a place on the storage that works these days, i know it never worked with Smartphone 2002.

So is that a yes or a no then? :?

i know it never worked with Smartphone 2002.

Yes it did, I had plenty of custom ringtones on the SD card of my original SPV

It can be done but involves editing the registry. It also used to cause the phone to lock-up if you subsequently went in to the Sounds settings page so was a bit of a pain but, it CAN be done.

Anyway, to answer the posters original question:

I copied over a load of midi files but could not add them ad personal caller ringtones.

Custom ringtones should be .wav or .wma

if you read what you quoted, i better spell it out for fozzie

 on a storage card=No

 on storage(the folder in your phones mem-in win2003se)=maybe

Yes it did, I had plenty of custom ringtones on the SD card of my original SPV  .

With smartphones or registry tweaks i know, it was not perfect, and required lots of fiddling about, and also had a habit of resetting itself if you went into sound settings(basically did not work 100% of the time)

 i dont think myjess was looking to spend hours playing with keys in the registry, but just for you fozzie, here goes

 get a registry editor for your phone

 put your sounds anywhere on your phone or storage card

 open the registry editor and go to hkey_current_user/contralpanel/sounds/

 now select the sound type such as 'reminder'

 now you will be presented with a empty screen, press values

 now go down to sound and click on it

 now change the path and filename to the sound you want.

e.g. storage cardmy documentssound1.wav

i would not bother doing this to be honest as you will lose your settings sometimes and have to do it all again, but as fozzie insists

No problem. But again, your post above is wrong and irrelevant. The poster is asking about using midi files as Custom ringtones for each caller. Your post is about editing the registry for sounds and general ring tones. ](*,)

The registry entry that has the path for all ringtones is in:

HKCUControlPanelSoundCategoriesRingDirectory

Default is Windows but it can be edited to where all your own ringtones are e.g. Storage CardMy Ring Tones

Phone will need re-booting after this edit. These ringtones will then be available as custom ones for contacts.

Just to be clear - you CAN have custom ring tones on the Storage Card and you CAN'T use MIDI files as custom ringtones.

hi guys, a question for both fozzy and nigthmare. I have a SP 2003 phone, and did the registry hack. All is well and good, the question is, will WMA files work as CUSTOM CONTACT ringtones? I now know that midis won't, (never wanted them anyway) so I'm left with wav (memory hogs) and wma's.

I tried asking the question on another post, but people seem to be more concerned about what I do to my phone than actually with my question. :?

I just want to know if the phone will read WMA's from the SD card for contact ringtones. I know it does so for the default ringtone, but; any other setting (like the alarm, notification, reminder, etc) will only allow me to play wav files. If I try to select a WMA file, it will tell me "the ringtone is not working properly. You may want to select a different one" and then it forces me to select another tone, a WAV one. Is that correct, or am I missing something?

PS, I forgot about this. Is there any program that will allow you to select and edit the personal ringtones, at once? say, like SPStudio, which allows you to see and edit all your contacts' info on your PC. Is there anything like that for the personal ringtones? something that will load your contacts, and then quickly allow you to go through them, assign personal sounds from the phone or the SD card, and then load the contacts back to the phone with their custom ringtones assigned? THANKS IN ADVANCE FOR YOUR INFO!!
