Guest lobes Posted November 6, 2004 Report Posted November 6, 2004 Can any one help? I have just upgraded my old SPV to the new C500. I have uninstalled Activesync 3.6 and loaded 3.7. Now when i try to sync the phone it just states connecting on the PC and not connected on the phone. I have found that if i disable NAV and disconnect my broadband connection it will connect with no problems. I have also installed it 3.7 on my laptop and had no issues with sync at all (Laptop has a corporate edition of Norton AV). Can anyone shine some light as to what the problem may be as disabling NAV and pulling the internet connection each time it a bit much!!!
Guest NIGHTMARE Posted November 7, 2004 Report Posted November 7, 2004 i have had problems with NAV being very unpredicatable, on one of my pc's it just blocks everything untill i disable it, i know its not the settings, it is just fuc*ed, if i uninstall it and put it back on same, even if i restore the registry and deleate the symatec folder, also looking around the net for an age did not help, i think that norton is volotile and when it goes wrongtheir is nothing you can do apart from format(if a reinstall did not work) if you want it to work properly. the problem is if you did not know the cause then it could happen again, i would reccomend disabling it where nessasary unless you want a hard slog reinstalling everything!
Guest Confucious Posted November 7, 2004 Report Posted November 7, 2004 I use NAV2004 and it's not caused a problem. What version of NAV do you have? What OS? How are you connecting USB or BT? Do you have a firewall?
Guest lobes Posted November 7, 2004 Report Posted November 7, 2004 Thanks Nightmare and Confucious I am running XP (Home) OS, Office XP (Pro) and Norton Antivirus 2004 and Norton Internet Security 2004. I do have the Firewall in NIS enabled and the XP firewall is also enabled. I am connecting through a USB, i tried the port on the front of my PC then found some info on the Web saying this may cause a problem due to a pass through connection, so i am connecting to a spare USB on the rear (same problem)?????? Lobes
Guest Confucious Posted November 7, 2004 Report Posted November 7, 2004 First thing first - you are using 2 firewalls!!!! Disable SP2 firewall imediatly. It is better than nothing but not as good as NIS firewall. You should not run 2 firewalls. Have you run live update on all your Norton products? Then try activesync -does it work? If No try disconnecting form Broadband - does Activesync work? If No then disable NIS Firewall as well (don't do this if still connected to your broadband). - does Activesync work? Let us know the results.
Guest lobes Posted November 7, 2004 Report Posted November 7, 2004 I have now disabled the SP2 firewall. Activesync did not connect (Status stayed "connecting") I then disconnected the broadband connection and disabled the NIS firewall. Activesync connected fine! Is there a setting in NIS i can change to enable Activesync to operate without all the hassle of the above. (like i used to with my old phone) but having the firewall enabled? Thanks for all the help so far
Guest Confucious Posted November 7, 2004 Report Posted November 7, 2004 Probably. I don't know NIS - have you downladed the latest updates to it? Is there a "control center" for it - if so, does it come up with a message when you try to connect?
Guest lobes Posted November 7, 2004 Report Posted November 7, 2004 All Norton products are up to date. No there is no error message from Norton when trying to connect?
Guest Confucious Posted November 7, 2004 Report Posted November 7, 2004 This article tells you how to allow access to the internet, have a look and see if there is anything in there to help you. Good luck.
Guest Confucious Posted November 7, 2004 Report Posted November 7, 2004 The one I linked too when you click on the word "This" in my previous post.
Guest lobes Posted November 13, 2004 Report Posted November 13, 2004 I appear to have resolved the issue by carrying out a new program scan from the NIS firewall configuration settings!! Anyone having trouble with NIS may want to try this themselves. Good Luck!
