i tried to run the application unlock from the orange webpages last night. it failed, but now my phone keeps activating gprs as though its connecting to something. i had also been installing a few apps around the same time, so its hard to tell what has caused this to happen.I've done a hardware reset and it appears to have sorted it out, but does anybody have any ideas as to why this might happen, cos i've now got to reinstall all my apps etc again and if it was an application rather than the orange update that caused it i'd rather not find out the hard way.

regarding the application unlock, is it necessary on the c500 as i have been reading conflicting reports. Also would it make any difference if i tried the unlock with an orange sim in my phone as apposed to my voda one that i normally use.

Good question,

I'm just about to buy a c500 and was wondering about getting it application unlocked. I'd noticed that a few of the SPV phones can be unlocked via the Orange website and wondered if they'd be doing this in the future for the c500, saving me the cost of the £20 or so that i've seen in other posts.

Unless the phone is already unlocked? I'm presuming not as the unlocking service is available

the £20 unlock is to have the phone sim unlocked so that it works with other networks. I have successfully managed to application unlock my phone now. I connected the phone to the pc and setup the internet on the phone to use the pass through option.

Cheers,

So did you use the Orange website unlock thing to app. unlock your phone then?

i had a similar problem with the e200, all i did was reboot the phone and and go through the pc wizard again, and no problems!

and agf102, yes it does work with c500, no problems what so ever for me.

and for FREE

The C500 is partially unlocked so will run more aopps than a locked E200 (so I believe) but you still need to get it unlocked to install new homepages and some other things. The OTA unlocking worked fine for me using an Orange SIM in the UK,

Splendid,

Thanks very much.

I've heard that there are a variety of extra things installed when you get the phone from Orange. Out of interest, would they still work if you changed SIM to say O2?
