Noob at Homescreen makin' ..

I am totally new to this.. And i would like to get some information about making such homescreens for 2003.. Does there exist any guide to noobs from the beginning to the end ? Thanks a lot !

Just start opening up some xml files and start messing around. It's what most of us did.
