Guest dom1nic Posted November 8, 2004 Report Posted November 8, 2004 Not sure if this is the correct forum to post this but I need some help and advice, apologies if its the wrong forum and has already been covered. I've come to the end of my contract with Orange and as usual looking for a new handset to upgrade to. I currently have an mpx200, which is nice but suffers from rubbish reception. Before getting the moto I always went with Nokia. I like their UI on standard phones. Then I saw the 6260 - a smartish phone. Ive read thru a few threads on here, and now I'm kinda confused as to what to do next. Would I be right in thinking that as its a different OS, you wont be supprting it? If so, then its a shame (but understandable) Ive lost count of the times this website has helped me. Can someone give me some guidance - do I go for it (free handset on O2) or do I leave well alone, if so suggest a new replacement. Im not very good at making decisions
Guest chucky.egg Posted November 8, 2004 Report Posted November 8, 2004 Have a look at the c500 / 5600. I don't know the nokia models any more so can't advise you on that, but I don't think modaco will ever have a nokia forum! Posted from my SmartPhone!
Guest dom1nic Posted November 8, 2004 Report Posted November 8, 2004 dont want to get my head kicked in but I dont like the look of c500. Im sure its a nice phone tho. point to add which may sway my decision - with the nokia not having an MS OS, I presume it wont have media player or MSN, am I right?
Guest chucky.egg Posted November 8, 2004 Report Posted November 8, 2004  I doubt you'll get a kicking. Maybe a few nasty stares, but nothing stronger than that! Nokia don't use MS OS, I think *all* of their smartphones use Symbian Series 60 (but I could be wrong). So, no, you won't get media player nor MSN, but you can get 3rd party apps to provide equivalent facilities.
Guest lukeap69 Posted November 9, 2004 Report Posted November 9, 2004 it's a different feel and OS for the N6260. i was a nokia user too before i bought SAP (E100). on the phone side, i think nokia is slightly better but on the OS side, i have no plan of buying new phone again if it is not windows. btw, i still have P900 and N6600. lukeap 69
Guest Chaser81 Posted November 9, 2004 Report Posted November 9, 2004 I find the Symbian OS slow and clunky, and I'm a Smartphone user, so that should tell you something!
Guest chucky.egg Posted November 9, 2004 Report Posted November 9, 2004 @dom1nic To get some balance of views you could try posting the same question on www.esato.com/board or www.my-symbian.com You'll get the opposite response ("MS sucks, Symbian rules"), but in amongst it all you'll also get info on what apps are good on the Symbian platform
