I have my new C500 arriving tomorrow. I have bought a 1Gb SD card but I have read somewhere since that the C500 uses a smaller SD card. Is that true?

unfortunately that is correct

the spv c500 uses MINI SD CARDS

and not the standard size ones

the spv c500 supports mini sd cards up to 512mb

looks like you will have to find another use for your 1gb card
