i love my spv c500

but have lately found my battery life fluctuating badly

one day playing 1 mp3 will knock battery by 1-2%

the other it would play 5 before going by 1%

i was baffled at first, then tried a few tests

if i left the c500 overnight to charge (would get to 100% whilst remaining on charging)

the battery didnt last well at all the following day

however if i was to charge the battery to 100% then disconnect the charger soon after

the battery would be awesome

it might sound weird but ive done this several times and it works

i have tried hard resets etc but doesnt seem to alter the method above at all

basically when the c500 LED goes green, its time for it to be removed

i assume leaving it on charge when fully charged confuses the phone which results to fluctuating results

hope this helps

I do the same sort of thing with my T610.

I found that after running the battery down completely, it takes around 3 hours to achieve a full charge. I bought one of those plug in timer gizmo's and set it to 3¼ hours - I've had the phone over a year now, and the battery still lasts (almost) as long as it did when I first got it...

Quiet worrying that, i am not sure if that is correct tho, i always leave my pjone on chrge overnight, even if it does not need it(as the charger is by my bed and i se the phone for a alarm, theirfor battery life should be bad-right. But i listen to mp3's for hours(4-8) at work everyday, and it never goes down by more than 2 bars, most of the time it stays on 4 bars.

i think it is more of a case of what exactly you are doing with your phone, if the screen is bright all of the time, it wont last long, if you are playing movies or action games, same story. however if you put a music playlist throough your BT headset, put keypad lock on and forget about it, the battery will last an age.

the good news is that it only takes a hour or so to charge ;-)

I have to agree with Raymo on this one. I was really pleased with the battery life that I only chared it for a short time every few days. Then before an important trip I left it charging overnight and was really surprised at how quickly the battery went down.

The next time I charged it quickly and once again had great battery life even though Imade a point of using it more than usual.

My worry is, what happens if you leave it plugged in to the computer for a lon time. Will this screww the battery up?

ok

here are the facts about the c500 and its battery usage

if you have it connected to gprs (using msn or t'internet)/bluetooth on descoverable/your using it for playing games/movies and the screens on/your making or reciving calls this eats into the 7 days standby

leaving the battery on charge is fine, its a li-ion battery so when its full it stops accepting charge

if you leave the phone connected to a pc, and the pc is off, this will discharge the battery.

the current hard facts (untill someone can disprove me, and i have hard data to back me up) are

making a call gives - 200 minuites from full

playing games/bluetooth on gives 23 hours

standby - bluetooth off gives 7 days

this was done using a c500 and my battery monitor, which logs usage to the sd card, over 45 days

In preparation for a weekend away, I left my phone on charge overnight and most of the following day. (The LED had turned green.)

I was travelling from Liverpool to Coventry, a journey which took nearly 2.5 hours. I decided to use Mapopolis (I was curious as to which wierd and wonderful way it would send me), so had my screen illuminated (doesn't it get dark quickly nowadays?) for the whole journey and BT was also on (BT GPS). My phone lost 50% of it's charge during the journey.

I expected a drain on the battery, but not that much. I have made similar journeys in the past after only 'burst charging' my phone and the power has only reduced by less than half that. :?

trust me, leaving the phone on charge overnight is no different to charging it until 100% then removing from charge. i leave mine charging all day long (i develop for the smartphone so its easier for me to leave it plugged in) but when i take it off charge it lasts exactly the same as if i only charged for an hour or two.

the only thing i will say is..... dont let the phone discharge fully on regular occasions as this can damage the battery. Oh, and for those with bad battery life, have you tried the old hard reset with the phone on full charge?

Hi,

I think I have bad battery life and before returning to the Orange-shop, I'd like to verify it.

I watched about 50 min of Southpark, used BT for about 10 minutes and gamed for about 20-30 minutes. Besides that I made just a few calls, not longer then 20 min and sent a few text messages.

Within 48 hours the battery was empty.

Is this bad battery life? I think so.

What would the hard reset do for my bad battery life? And with full charge, do you mean battery @ 100% or while charging? Just making sure.

Thnx

if you do some simple maths with this

you start off with 100% battery

take away 110 minuites of high power usage at say 1% every 3 mins, drops you down to 64%

and then you have 46 hours of (im guessing) poor signal standby losing 1% every 43 mins and you end up with an empty battery

as for the hardreset tip, charge the battery to 100% and leave it for atleast 40 mins on charge before resetting

Erm, i have to disagree with that. True that li-ion batteries stop charging when the battery has reached its capacity, but leaving it connected to the charger the whole time is how my laptop battery died.

Its fine when the battery is at 100%, it wont charge.

As soon as the battery drops to 99% it starts charging again, up to 100%, then it stops. Rince and repeat. That will definitely kill your battery in a short period of time (I have my dead laptop battery to prove it. ).

li-ion batterys do not get killed if you leave them constantly on charge. I have posted many times on the memory effect of batterys, and how it does not effect li-ion. do some reading up, theres lots of material on the web about it

ohh ohh ohh ohh

has everyone forgotten about the charging circuit in the phone, that when its been told by the battery that the battery is full it 'disconnects' the battery and runs of mains?

anyone else with a theory about batterys they want disproving? (with facts)

its spelt maths, and its below normal looking battery usage for a C500, unless you have bluetooth on all the time, or it checking mail over gprs every 15 mins

try not using the usb charger and use the mains one as you will be 'trickle' charging the battery at 500mA instead at whatever the mains charger does

try running my battery monitor on your phone, that will tell you how bad the battery is

Oh I'm sorry Mr. Mackey mmoookaaayy?????

PFF..english is not my native language, but I think I handle it pretty well though. This is the internet, so don't make a fuss about one s being left out in a word like maths. If it was a very obvious, stupid mistake, ok, but it isn't imho.

Well, having dealt with that issue...no offence btw hehe

Thank you for the info, I already thought my battery was below normal.

Where can i get your phone monitor (as I am new ànd lazy)

Well, I'm pretty convinced my battery sux, so I took it back to the orange shop.

The dude there advised me to unload the battery completely, then charge it for 24 hours, while unhooking the charger for a second every 8 hours and to repeat this 3 times (so 72 hours of charging and 3 times complete unloading in total)

He said Li-ion batteries could be "lazy" sometimes and needed to be charged like this before they would function properly.

If this won't work, he told me to come back with the receipt (? dunno if it's the correct word/spelling). So if this method doesn't work, I expect to get a new one.

I'll keep you updated

grtz
