Guest realdeck Posted November 9, 2004 Report Posted November 9, 2004 :?: :?: :?: I have an MPX200, bought from ebb. It was an AT&T locked device. As soon as receiving the phone, successfully unlocked it via code. Planned to upgrade WM2003. Found out the bin file and the Motorola uploader program. Tried many times but could not be able to finish the upgrade successfully. The program says "bad news..." I cant figure out what is wrong or missing. The bin file I have is with a name of WM2003.... blah blah.. so I cant tell about which version it is. I close all applications while trying to upgrade. I tried it on 2 different computers, but no result. Any opinions..? :?: :?:
Guest awarner [MVP] Posted November 9, 2004 Report Posted November 9, 2004 Check your firewall settings as that can cause problems, also before doing the update try to hard reset your device making sure you have a full battery first.
Guest Rivernet1 Posted November 23, 2004 Report Posted November 23, 2004 There really is no reason to go to 2003. All you're going to get headaches. Stay with 2002 and you'll be fine.
Guest bartsimp Posted November 23, 2004 Report Posted November 23, 2004 I'l not an expert but hasn't IE been greatly enhanced, especially with the single column display wich is really a must.
Guest Rivernet1 Posted November 23, 2004 Report Posted November 23, 2004 I'd rather have stability then my phone acting strange when it feels like it, or rejecting a call you're waiting for. I've got quite a few MPx200 users on my site and out of say, 40 - 35 of them have had nothing but problems. There's no 'sure-fire' ROM out there that's "the best" The MPx200 was never made to run 2003. So it will run it, but not the way you're thinking it should. Of course, YMMV. And I'm not bashing either the phone (which I'd never part with...) or the OS.
Guest Enemec Posted December 2, 2004 Report Posted December 2, 2004 As far as upgrades go..... The upgrade from 2002 to 2003 was a MAJOR improvement to the MPX200. The battery life and signal improvement alone were worth it. The phone still occasionally has a glitch like the mentioned cannot pickup call or it hangs but this is still much less than 2002. I suggest getting the 2003 rom and the 2002 as a restore backup. You just cant go wrong that way. BTW- anyone know of a newer 2003 rom than microsoft 4.20.13349.0 manufacturer: 3.70.23.0 Best of luck- E
Guest awarner [MVP] Posted December 2, 2004 Report Posted December 2, 2004 There is not actually any improvement in battery or signal just remember the fully charged battery on Hard Reset trick. 2003 gives you less memory and stability than 2002.
Guest flashflash Posted December 2, 2004 Report Posted December 2, 2004 Wish people on here would stop going on about Wm03 having better battery and signal... Its all rubbish and in the mind....!
Guest Enemec Posted December 2, 2004 Report Posted December 2, 2004 Look...everyone has had different experiences. For me, I plugged the phone in every night and started work at 7am by 7pm it was dead. After the upgrade, no problem going till late at night. I would rate signal strength with 2002 a 4 out of 10 (10 best), after the upgrade it was an 8. Not perfect but a HUGE HUGE HUGE improvement. Not in my mind just the facts. Take it for what its worth, if you don't believe so be it. Though I did drop it the other day and it hasn't been the same.
Guest flashflash Posted December 2, 2004 Report Posted December 2, 2004 ok ok, everyone has their own opinion. However, Im sure any battery performance increase was due to the fact your battery was fully charged when you reflashed the Rom. Looks like when you reflash the phone, the Rom resets a maximum voltage variable, so it knows when the battery is fully charged. The fact that some people upgraded to WM03 and didn't fully charge their battery before, caused the phone reset is max voltage at a lower level, hence massive loss of battery performance. In some circumstances the phones with WM02 installed didnt have the max voltage set correct (prob factory problem) thus causing problems with battery life. When these phones were reflashed the problem was corrected. As far as signal strength is concerned , there isnt a acurate way to measure signal unless you look at the db level in the engineer menu. Looking at the number of bars isnt accurate because your phone is constantly switching channels and cells due to various changes (interference, walls, cell capacity etc) anyway, Wm03 doesnt ruin your phone, infact I had it for 4 months before the problems drove me back to WM02 (which is far less buggy). P.S still waiting for MPX220
