Guest alexmac10 Posted November 9, 2004 Report Posted November 9, 2004 I have just started ripping DVDs and want to store them on my 512mb sd card on my C500. I can't seem to get the file size down to around 100mb which is what a 1 1/2 hour movie should be. Any ideas? I am using DVD decypter to decode them and pocket DIVX to resize the clips etc. Any help or advice much appreciate Thanks

Guest siu99spj Posted November 10, 2004 Report Posted November 10, 2004 There's also a guide in the FAQ. Only other thing are to check that it's being resized, has low audio and bit-rate settings and is encoded using the right codec..
Guest rodrigoperu Posted November 14, 2004 Report Posted November 14, 2004 well, you can try re-encoding the same avi you just made, right? I did that with a movie using also pocket divx, and set it up so it would encode with almost the highest video and audio quality. Since it was a re-encoding of a previously encoded avi, it shunk it almos half in size, with very little visible or audible quality loss.

Initially when I did the guide some very murky videos were floating around which meant keeping any sort of quality was a problem. However, if you have a relatively clean source it will compress well. The less quality the source has, the more pronounced the bad parts will be when you shrink it down (One of the wonders of digital video that). Only shrinking a film by half isn't any great shakes though. You compress a movie with minimal loss in quality or audio (To the user) and get it down to a tenth the size, thats good compression (Or indicates naff compression originally).
