I have downloaded a couple of ring tones which work fine as main ring tones.

It says in the manual that you can also use them as Message alert tones etc but they do not appear in the list.

Also can anyone point me in the direction of some, preferably free, ring tones.

.wav files seem to show up when you place them in /storage/application data/Sounds or the route of the sd card

alright mate not sure but you may have to move the tone to the application data(sounds) folder you should be able to do this via active sync(instructions on the smartphone how to bit on your internet favourites menu) the best free ringtones are the ones that you get from your own cd collection. On my pc if i copy a cd onto media player it's stored on there as a .wma so i just then copy that(via active sync) onto my phone hope this helps
