Guest smith2001 Posted November 10, 2004 Report Posted November 10, 2004 hi all had some orange juice on my desk the other day and knocked what little i had over. a tiny bit got onto my SPV e200 keypad and now most of my buttons kinda stick down or don't come up all the way after being depressed. anyone know the best to get rid of the dried sticky orange residue obviously blighting my SPV e200 now Cheers Dan
Guest Disco Stu Posted November 10, 2004 Report Posted November 10, 2004 I knocked a pint of Guinness over mine once. The buttons were sticky for a couple of months but eventually returned to a fairly normal action. I'm not confident enough to take the phone apart and knew that it would give me an excuse to upgrade to a newer model sooner.
Guest Samsonite Posted November 10, 2004 Report Posted November 10, 2004 the biggest problem with OJ is that it is mildly acidic... It is likley that your buttons will free up once all the sugary/sticky goo has worked itself off the contacts but you may find that the unit just gives up the ghost at some point in the near future. Keypad areas on circuit boards are not coated usually out of necessity and as such are one of the most vulnerable areas... I'm sorry that i cant be more constructive over how to open it all up to clean the keypad, but you need to do it sooner rather than later and i really wouldnt leave it till all seems ok. Once you have got it open, a wipe with isopropyl alcohol (IPA) will do the trick - let that evaporate and then reassemble... hope all goes well.....
Guest kurtfhouse Posted November 10, 2004 Report Posted November 10, 2004 I agree with Samsonite, just open it up and give it a clean just to be on the safe side, I haven't got a E200 but I have opened several phones before and its not too tricky
Guest Confucious Posted November 10, 2004 Report Posted November 10, 2004 And the moral of this story is... Drink Guinness not Orange Juice  :D ;)
Guest smith2001 Posted November 10, 2004 Report Posted November 10, 2004 heh should have pointed out it was orange cordial not orange juice from the del monte fields. but have given it a wipe over with my work shirt and it seems a little better, will keep doing it over time when phone is off and hope it gets better. oh and i do not like guinness
Guest Disco Stu Posted November 10, 2004 Report Posted November 10, 2004 Best thing to do is upgrade to a C500 8) It won't fare any better in the drink, but it's as good an excuse to get one as any !
Guest Samsonite Posted November 10, 2004 Report Posted November 10, 2004 ah yes... the ubiquitous work-shirt solution ) works as good as any purpose made cleaning solution and will double as a sneeze-catcher if times get real tough!!! I dont think Robinsons is that corrosive so the only drama you're gonna have is a jaffa cake smelling phone with sticky kkkkkkkkkkkkeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeyyyyyyyyyyyysssssssssssss :D)
Guest awarner [MVP] Posted November 10, 2004 Report Posted November 10, 2004 You could always give the phone a good wash in De-ionised water (not a joke) but make sure it is top grade as it has little to no conductivity so will not short out the board. Then again you would want to make sure it is dry before testing.
