Guest arikido Posted November 10, 2004 Report Posted November 10, 2004 Evening people.... I'm having this really f'ed up issue with my C500. I've been trying to synch my contacts, Calender and tasks to the C500. I am able to connect, then i get a message telling me that another program is trying to access Outlook 2002. As i know its ActiveSync, i allow access. Another message then comes up asking whether i wish to replace / combine items on desktop. I select Combine. The progress begins then within a minute my connection is dropped! This has been happening for ages and its beginning to really bug me. My E100 was smooth with such things, but then again it was mad slow! I have removed and reinstalled ActiveSync, but i'm still encountering the same issue. Is anyone out there having similar issues or am i the only one with a dodgy connection??? :x This is my only gripe to what is a really cool phone.... Cheers.
Guest Chaser81 Posted November 11, 2004 Report Posted November 11, 2004 Are you running McAfee firewall? I had a customer with McAfee in my store the other day and it HATED Activesync. The only way we got it working was to disable the firewall. Even if you are not using McAfee, try disabling your firewall and attempting to sync (Obviously making sure you are offline at the time!).
Guest Confucious Posted November 11, 2004 Report Posted November 11, 2004 Firewall would be my first guess too. Failing that, how are you connecting? USB, BT or IR? Assuming it's USB and you are running WinXP then is the USB cable attached to a hub or dirrectly to the PC?
Guest arikido Posted November 11, 2004 Report Posted November 11, 2004 Guys, I'm using Zone Alarm firewall. I was using this when i had my e100, and i had no problems. Confucious, thanks for the tip. I'm connected via a hub at the moment, so i will try a direct connection with the PC and see what happens. If i have the same problem, i'll keep you posted.
Guest SeeJ Posted November 11, 2004 Report Posted November 11, 2004 I have the same problem! Its not the firewall (using the sp2 built-in firewall, tried with it on and off) Its not the usb hub (not using one) Get this: when I syncronise the inbox, contacts and tasks it works fine!! Only when the Calendar is checked it starts syncronisin' then the connection drops out. It is always the same amount of time till it drops as well, AFAIK. Anyone having a similar problem could maybe try deselecting the calendar check box (or any of the others). Anyone got any ideas as to why this is happening?
Guest Confucious Posted November 11, 2004 Report Posted November 11, 2004 What makes you think it's NOT the firewall? If you're certain it's not (still my first choice) then try selecting just 1 weeks fyture appointments and 0 past and if that works keep increasing until you can isolate what is causing the problem.
Guest SeeJ Posted November 12, 2004 Report Posted November 12, 2004 Because as I've said, I tried it with the firewall on and off. Tried synching as you said but the same still happens.....
Guest arikido Posted November 12, 2004 Report Posted November 12, 2004 Now, I am really lost. Tried synching Tasks and that worked. Then tried contacts and the connection dropped again..... This is getting silly......
Guest arikido Posted November 15, 2004 Report Posted November 15, 2004 Peeps, I think i may have solved my own problem. When i first received my C500, i was told to use Orange Backup to download my contacts into the phone. I did this before i tried to sync. Have hard reset my phone and Robert is your mothers uncle, i can sync at last. Turns out that having the contacts already in the phone causes some kind of glitch, so Activesync cannot overcome / overwrite what is there. Seej, maybe you should try this too? Peace! A happy camper!
Guest Confucious Posted November 16, 2004 Report Posted November 16, 2004 Arkido, ActiveSync shouldn't have a problem with contacts that are allready there unless, of course, there was a formatting problem. Did you back them up to Orange Backup from a different phone? If so what was the phone? And can you remember what info was stored and in what format? Hopefully what you've fornd out will stop other people from having the same problem. Glad you got it sorted. Well done
Guest -Mark- Posted November 16, 2004 Report Posted November 16, 2004 Sounds to me more like you've got ActiveSync via Exchange Server setup, which would point to contact, calendar and email failing but the others working. Just a thought!
Guest arikido Posted November 16, 2004 Report Posted November 16, 2004 Mark, i checked the setup and it definitely wasn't via Exchange Server. Confucious, you raise an interesting point. I did my Orange Backup from my old E100 (God Bless Her Soul!) onto Orange server. I then downloaded it onto my C500. I stored contacts and my documents info. I may also have done calender, but i can't remember. To be honest, i don't know what format it was in. Hope this helps. Arikido
Guest SeeJ Posted November 19, 2004 Report Posted November 19, 2004 I did a hard reset too, and everything is fine now. I also imported contacts, etc from my old phone so it looks like this was the problem, in case this happens to anyone else. Thanks for the help guys!
Guest maxh2003 Posted November 19, 2004 Report Posted November 19, 2004 I've had exactly this problem as a result of corrupted files on my storage card. When I removed the storage card, the problem went away and I was able to sync all categories, but with the storage card in, any attempt to sync contacts or calendar caused a dropped connection. Obviously, formatting the storage card fixed the problem.
Guest Dr Who Posted November 22, 2004 Report Posted November 22, 2004 Problem is that data backup and then RESTORED using the Orange Backup service on the phone is incompatible in some way with Outlook and it causes the activesync freeze. Looked into this pretty extensively a few months ago but nodody came up with an answer.
