Guest pwhooftman2 Posted November 11, 2004 Report Posted November 11, 2004 After switching on my C500, the Smartmonitor plugin shows 9.2 Mb free (program) memory. If i leave the phone untouched, available memory is still reduced by about 1.5 Mb per day, making the phone unresponsive after about 5-6 days (when all memory has gone). Running SP Free Mem (which stops all non-system apps) brings no memory back. All i can do is reboot the phone. The only non-system apps i have running after boot are Xbar and All Locations GPRS Traffic Counter. How can i find out what app is using up my memory? Is there a Task/Process Manager which shows the amount of memory each app is using individually? Is it possible that a Homescreen plugin (like Smartmonitor itself...) is using up memory? Home screen plugins don't show up in the list of running apps... I have Bluetooth enabled but not in discoverable mode. Any help much appreciated.
Guest RT87 Posted November 11, 2004 Report Posted November 11, 2004 Yeah, I have the same problem. I think its just generally expected you reboot your phone every couple of days.
Guest pwhooftman2 Posted November 11, 2004 Report Posted November 11, 2004 But i also have a iPaq H1915 Pocketpc, and it doesn't require a reboot frequently..., so it shouldn't be a 'feature' of the OS (after all, Pocketpc 2002 & Smartphone 2003 shouldn't be too different....)
Guest kurtfhouse Posted November 11, 2004 Report Posted November 11, 2004 I'm sure I don't get this problem, at least as far as I have noticed :? I will make sure I don't turn off the phone for a few days and get back to you
Guest pwhooftman2 Posted November 24, 2004 Report Posted November 24, 2004 So far, i have been able to determine that Xbar 2.0, Xbar 2.4 and the Smartmonitor plugin are the cause of my memory leaks. Not starting Xbar and using the 'Windows standard' homescreen keeps the amount of available memory at a constant level for days...
Guest Rob.P Posted November 25, 2004 Report Posted November 25, 2004 I have only had my C500 for just under a week now, I upgraded from an E200. Suffering the same problem, I had this with the E200 as well. I usually go into Task Manager and kill all apps that are left open after a bit of usage, got into a routine of doing it now but would be nice if I didn't have to. I think the lowest I have ever seen it get down to is just under 5MB, if I use TM to kill the progs then it usually goes back up to about 7MB, which I find to be the average. If you reboot your phone so you have about 9MB and then use activesync you will drop to about 7MB anyway no matter what. Hence I'm happy as long as it can get back to about 7MB free seeing as the phone is hooked up to AS quite a lot.
Guest pwhooftman2 Posted November 25, 2004 Report Posted November 25, 2004 Indeed, when activesync is in use, memory varies around 7 mb free, without Activesync, it's 8-9 Mb. But in my case Memory was reduced 1,5 Mb a day by just leaving the phone untouched, with only Xbar and the Smartmonitor plugin in memory after boot-up. If i want to use Xbar again, i'm considering to schedule a soft reset every night via the crontab tool of Xbar, in order to free up memory. Downside is that i can't use a pincode to safeguard the phone. I can see why Orange blocks the phone for un-certified software, after all memory leaks causing phones to hang every week is not the kind of thing they want to subject their customers to.... When available memory comes close to 0Mb , my phone starts doeing the strangest things, like showing a home screen filled with briefcase icons or halting when receiving a call...
Guest cyrilthefish Posted November 26, 2004 Report Posted November 26, 2004 I have the same problem too, memory just keeps getting used up untill the phone eventually half-dies (ie half the default c500 homecreen won't even appear anymore) most extreme example was yesterday after allmost a week of use: programs will not start, and the shorcut bar on the c500 homescreen dissapears. i load up xbar and find i have only ~250kb free memory  closing all non-system processes only left me with 1.1mb free (closing and reloading xbar doesn't help either) after a reboot i had 8mb free memory
Guest Confucious Posted November 26, 2004 Report Posted November 26, 2004 Same problem - does seem to be xbar - has anyone reported it to the writer of xbar yet?
Guest jalm1 Posted November 27, 2004 Report Posted November 27, 2004 i too am having the same issues, and have since uninstalled xbar. but i still think that activesync is one of the causes. i have my phone on allways update with our exchange server. in the past i would need to reset my phone 1-2 times a day even after uninstalling x-bar (unless i still ahve parts of xbar installed after using the remove programs). however, i have been traveling in a roaming area so i am not using allways on active sync and am manually trigering it a few times a day, and my phone is fine 4 days latter, it has a ton of memory left, and shut down fine. that was one of my problems, i would shut down the phone and it would not shut down, i would get the audivox (i have a 5600) screen and it would stay there untill i removed the battery. Any other ideas of what might help?
